No Gas September 19, 2016

At the fifth station

I waited in line for gas

We take for granted.

Art Prescription:  Lots of people are going to wake up tomorrow and realize something they take for granted, filling up their gas tank, may not be available to them. I find this a startling event and one that makes me realize how vulnerable we all are.

Paint Over September 18, 2016

Third time is a charm
Patience and lots more paint
Acrylics forgive!

Art Prescription: So you guys know I love watercolor! And I got this commission for a “French floral shop” in acrylic on canvas. Of course I can paint that. Well it’s been a sweet challenge, a large painting with lots of detail. Here it is after painting over and restarting multiple times.

One of my favourite blogs is artpresciption.com by Beverly Dyer, an artist who works with acrylic, watercolour and mixed media. She is also a Certified Botanical Illustrator. I am always intrigued by her unique style. Beverly was so kind to offer her lovely work to me for some poetic inspiration.

Awake I am rooted

Tethered, duty bound

Muffled by the fog

In dreams I drift

Turquoise, featherweight

Mellowed by earth’s song

The wind took my words

         To cradle, now churning

            Twisting and turning

      Filtered the facts

  Flicked lies at my back

S t r e t c h e d  and  sizeable

         Unrecognizable

               The wind took my words

If I could take the blue of you

And blend it with the mauve of me

I think that somehow we would be

A garden made in heaven

Who? September 14, 2016

Who have you become
Underneath that label, now
Rediscovery.

Art Prescription: We have all experienced labels. She’s this, he’s that. Then we try harder to be something! Something better? Peer pressure is so hard. What if we all could shine from the inside out? Then that stutter or weak leg wouldn’t matter, because all others could see was your glow.

Peek of Color September 13, 2016

A peek of pure hope
Anxious to blossom now
Into new chapter.

Art Prescription: Life is full of milestones, events, turning points, and revelations. How the next chapter goes can be honored with healthy boundaries. Love and respect do have boundaries. A good thought going into the holidays.

Fresh Basil September 11, 2016

Warm September sun
Beats down on shoulders, trail ride
Freshly cut basil.

Art Prescription: As America remembers 9/11, I’m immensely grateful for my life and the simple goodness of the day. Rest in peace lost souls. Each of us remember where we were when this changed the course of history.
