Butterfly Delight May 24, 2016

In the cool spring mud

A Mourning Cloak Butterfly

Feeds on minerals.

Art Prescription:  For those of you who follow my blog you will remember the gem I found while walking at Mason Farm. It’s a Mourning Cloak Butterfly. They use their probiscus to feed on the minerals found in mud. This is why you often see a bunch of butterflies on a puddle.

Morning Dove May 22, 2016

Flimsy assembly

Pine needles, twigs, and grass stems

Weaves into a nest.

Art Prescription:  So I’ve been worried about “my” Morning Dove nest. It seems so simple and not very well put together. Then I read that this is common, it’s just the way they build a nest. Nature knows best.

Trail Gem May 21, 2016

A gem on the path

While a woodpecker keeps time

Fledgelings flap for food.

Art Prescription:  A weekend walk at our favorite place Mason Farm. The greenery is lush and birds have fledged their nests. Parents are busy feeding jittery young, so devoted. Loud as a drum, a woodpecker beats at a hollow tree. Butterflies flit and flitter among wildflowers.

Fence May 20, 2016

Buttercups rise up

To meet the strong wooden fence

Above, old oaks pray.

Art Prescription: Do fences hold something in or out? Guess it depends on which side of the fence you think you are on… Me…a lovely bareback ride on my boy Finn admiring other horses graze among bright yellow buttercups!

Leap May 19 2016

Burrow into safe

Nurture yourself, release fears

Leap like a rabbit!

Art Prescription:  Is there a situation you need to resolve? Something that has you feeling frozen or a need to run? Perhaps a need to rest and re-evaluate?

Nature’s Gifts May 17, 2016

Nature’s works of art

Design driven by instinct

Essential life.

Art Prescription:  As spring continues on her course, I’m completely in awe of how the natural world takes care of itself without missing a beat. I have two beautiful nests in my trees, one of Mourning Doves, and the other Robins. I so enjoy sneaking a peak at the females as they sit on their brood, as the males nervously bring food as an offering. Seems most bird species have the parenting thing down-pat. Each “person” knows their role and there is no arguing about who last took out the trash.

Mask May 16, 2016

Who’s behind the mask

Is it your authentic self?

Or an impostor?

Art Prescription:  In a search for everything real…what can you touch, feel, see, smell, hear, each and every day of your one precious life?

You on a plane, me saddle

My ride takes me home.

Art Prescription:  There’s no place like home. What a beautiful day to take my boy Finn out on the trail. He takes such good care of me…sound, soft, reliable.
