Fall, Orange County
The fields, acres of fresh dirt
Tractor tracks remain.
Art Prescription: As I drive past Maple View Farm on the way home from riding Finn, the fields are so freshly plowed they glow orange.

As the garden wains
My imagination comes
To stay for winter.
Art Prescription: My favorite way to paint…random chaos, drips and puddles, blooms, that become a wildflower meadow.

No wind, waves, ripples
Perfect reflection on pond
Mind like still water.
Art Prescription: Misu no kokoro translates in Japanese to “A mind like still water.” It refers to water taking on a mirror-like quality. Working with horses is like this.
From Mark Rashid’s book “Whole Heart, Whole Horse: Building trust between horse and rider:”
“Put simply, developing a quiet mind allows us to take in and process information in a true and correct manner and then respond appropriately, in a way suited to the situation, provided the situation even needs a response.”
It occurs to me that this applies to every relationship in our lives.

Little biddy bit
A new experience, farm
And great big horses!
Art Prescription: My friend Bonnie and her two sweet pups went to the farm today to meet the herd. It was so interesting to watch these tiny dogs with the horses. The one word that says it all is “gentle.” Both the dogs and the horses were calmly inquisitive, sniffing the other as if to say hello.

In the gloaming now
The geese line up to take flight
And with one sound, whoosh!
Art Prescription: I love watching animals communicating. They seem to do such a better job than us humans. In unison bird flocks, horse herds, and geese make a move at the same time, as if choreographed.

On the porch with mums
Yellow mums and white pumpkin
Fall decor still-life.
Art Prescription: I love the hues of fall.

Waiting in the truck
With tail wagging loyalty
I know the routine.
Art Prescription: I think routine is just as important for our animals as it is for us. They look forward to their steady dose of love.

Heard the news today
People and things come and go
The circle of life.
Art Prescription: One of my favorite horses is leaving the farm. I will miss this gentle giant, and grieve. Gives a slight meaning to “birds of a feather.”

In a rush to be
Perfect, we lose sight of those
Moments becoming.
Art Prescription: We are all novices at life…

Watercolor discipline
A technique practice.
Art Prescription: Bird feathers and eggs are a good way to explore the many ways to lay down watercolor on paper. Today in my studio we explored wet on wet, and blending watercolors.
