Found Poetry February 6, 2016

Warm and inviting

Knowing that this is my place,

What I’ve created.

Art Prescription:  Spent most of my day at the farm riding Finn. Went with found poetry for my haiku and art…a little random print from a magazine. Try it! Just open up to any page and see what words jump out at you.

Still Life January 14, 2016

A huddle of leaves

A January still life

Together we fall.

Art Prescription:  Perfect temperature for a nature walk. Lots of birds singing, robins, nuthatches, cedar waxwings, chickadees, cardinals. I was looking to see what might be coming out of the ground, but instead found this bunch of leaves an interesting subject.

Holiday Blues December 29, 2015

Post-holiday blues

The hubbub grows more quiet

Time for reflection.

Art Prescription:  For most people this week after the mad dash of the holiday season is a time of regaining a sense of normal.

Thoreau (who went off alone into the woods by the way) says, “The life in us is like the water in a river. It rises, even floods, but then it recedes until it finds its true level.”

As life falls back into its regular pace we move into a new year of hopes, dreams, and intentions!

Bee-Line December 21, 2015

A straight direct course

Would be so much easier

Than all these circles.

Art Prescription:  And round and round we must go…picking up juicy tidbits on our journey. A course, straight to the honey, would lack in adventure. It would pale to the wandering and coming up lost now and again. It would probably be uneventful, without any family rows, work blow-ups, marriage quarrels… things would just naturally fall into place! How boring!!

As the year comes to an end, let’s give thanks to our circles. May our many curves be blessed and honored, and fasten your seat belt for the new year!

Keeping it Real December 9, 2015

Flock of wild turkeys

Gather in field, they do not

Wish they were peacocks.

Art Prescription:  So your neighbor has decked the halls and baked (home-made) a holiday cookie batch to sin for. Meanwhile you say the mantra “less is more, less is more.” And actually you are okay with that. You watch as the cardinal steals a sunflower seed from the nuthatch, and you sigh…life is good…life is really good.
