Get to the farm: Stat August 13, 2014

Out to greet the herd

Feet swish, tall grassy pasteur

Feel of a horse nose.

Art Prescription:  After a busy week and I have to mention the loss of a great actor, Robin Williams, I needed more than ever to go out to Blue Skies at Mapleview to be at one with nature. Horses, with their all knowing eyes, greet you where you are. My friend Ginger and I sat under the shade of a tree and talked about life and living and horses. It was a great day. Sketchbook –

Crepe Myrtles August 10, 2014

Heavy with blossoms

Crepe Myrtle branches bow low

Reddish-purple plumes.

Art Prescription:  Interesting how nature bends under extra weight, but does not often break. Sort of ZEN. We too could learn to gently bend when life gets a bit heavy, yielding softly, staying supple and conserving our energies for more good! Wouldn’t this make a great watercolor!

Poetics August 9, 2014

To swim, poetic

Pause to take a deep breath, stroke

Rhythm, flow, water.

Art Prescription:  Was thinking today as I was swimming how poetry and swimming are similar. There is a cadence to my stroke, a rhythm as I kick my feet, a pause as I turn my head to breathe. For me this is a moving meditation. Colored pencil and pen and ink 3 x 5 index card.

Scribble Tree August 8, 2014

Scars, blemishes, wounds

We all have them, our chapters,

Like trees we grow up

Art Prescription:  Here is a total stress relieving piece. Colored pencil scribbled on a 3 x 5 index card. It’s really all about the process, not the end picture. Ahhhh….feel better now.
