Long gas station lines
Shelves stripped of bottled water
Hurricane Florence.
Art Prescription: As our state prepares for Hurricane Florence people are helping people.
We are all in this together.
Brush painting with watercolor, my chop says “hope.”

As this hurricane approaches us I’m worried about our home and my horse Finn. Keep us in your thoughts.
Big wet nose, sniffs all
Along the trail, picks up stick
Happy on his walk.
Art Prescription: After our walk, Austen sat with me on the deck while I sketched a bit. He’s my neighbor’s sweet lab who I walk when she has long work days. He’s a love!
Sketchbook with washi tape and colored pencil:

We browse the art store
New brushes, paper, journals
Shall we get a cart?
Art Prescription: I have to say that an excuse to buy lots of art supplies was fun! Tomorrow I’m teaching three art classes for patients and families for the UNC Burn Center. I’m honored to be a part of this healing event.
My van is packed with art goodness!

September sunset
Trees salute summer, goodbye
Forest begins rest.
Art Prescription: Still hot. Signs of fall all around. A leaf here and there floats to ground.
Acrylic Sunset Tree:

I set out to do a couple of cacti drawings with watercolor pencil. The first layer is just form. Trying to get the drawing accurate.

Next I layered in some shadows:

I painted the pots with watercolor. And then added some pen and ink detail.

Meet me at the fence
Nose to nose we say hello
Gently we accept.
Art Prescription: we must work to accept the others across the fence.

The cost of one thing
Something precious like time
Or living itself.
Art Prescription: Where have all the butterflies gone?
Watercolor and ink: my chop says “hope.”

My art journal is always a place to “say” what’s on my mind with color and form.
Long lively day taking care of horses and my yard. Both bring me great satisfaction.
On this page I used a quote, free formed stamping, irises in watercolor, butterflies cut from mulberry paper.
Finished with my chop that says “hope.”

Early morning shade
Gives way to September light
The days get shorter.
Art Prescription: working on an idea for a big painting.
