Self-Expression September 5, 2017

When I try to paint

Like someone other than me

I can do NO ART.

Art Prescription:  Where does art come from? Sure in this digital, linked-in, social-media full world we are inundated by other’s work. And that’s not all bad. I do enjoy a nice Instagram surf with my morning coffee. But then I must go to my studio alone. I must face the blank paper.

It’s brave to go at it alone.

It’s brave to listen to and express your own voice.

Negative Space August 31, 2017

It’s what is not there

That fills the space, energy

The body knows truth.

Art Prescription:  I believe we humans truly have no idea how much we communicate with our bodies. The more time I spend with horses, the more I’m trying to hone in to this medicine.

Tiny painting:

Pressed Flowers August 29, 2017

Petals still in form

Their color faded, yet still

Full beauty remains.

Art Prescription:  I’ve always wanted to press flowers, but never have. The simple beauty of a flower pressed in a book intrigues me. Today I started a painting of pressed flowers. Here is my work in progress. I have lots of details to add…shadows, etc.

Hillsborough River Walk August 28, 2017

A painted lady

Gently landed on my hand

Let go of struggle.

Art Prescription:  We went to hike the Hillsborough River Walk today. Fall asters and butterflies sprinkled the trail reminding me of what peace feels like.

Art journal: I collected some leaf skeletons and used them as a stencil for my journal .background:

Boundaries August 24, 2017

A very loud shrill

Announcing territory

And it’s boundaries!

Art Prescription:  when nature feels threatened it sets off a series of alarms, think of a snake coiling to strike. Carolina Wrens have a call that’s very regonizable as a stay away from here message. What can we humans learn from this? How in a crowded world do we respect each other’s space?

Front August 23, 2017

August front moves in

Pine straw and leaves blow about

Butterflies take note.

Art Prescription:  I love summer…bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, fresh tomatoes!

And I’m ready for cooler weather.

A very good four legged friend of mine is having surgery tomorrow. I’ve lit a special prayer candle for her and am sending her pixie healing dust!
