Iris

Soft ruffled petals

Rise up from a sturdy stalk

An Iris Garden.

Art Prescription: Watercolor and pen.

Here I’ve taped my specimen in…

Stitch by stitch

Cool, clear, pool water

Goggles and cap are intact

Thinking time, my swim.

Art Prescription: What a beautiful NC day. I went for a swim, then headed out to give Finn a walk. Also did healing touch on his sore back.

Still working on my improvisational embroidery. Wow! This takes a lot of time!

Red Bud

A burst of pink-red

Hidden gems in the forest

Smell honeysuckle.

Art Prescription: Truly mixed media! I cut leaves from mulberry paper for a UNC Hospital Tree.

Collaged extra pieces in my journal and added acrylic paint.

Added a few red-bud blooms with embroidery thread!

Still exploring art journals and embroidery.

Back in the Woods

Then the forest sang

The flutes came in with sweet highs

Sunset symphony.

Art Prescription: Walking in the Woods lends itself to many metaphors. For example, today a copperhead stretched out across the path.

He asked us to go around or go back and wait for him to move on. We circled and he moved on into his habitat.

Life asks us to deal with issues. Do you need to face your path? Need to sidestep family drama? Draw your boundaries in the sand?

Or walk the other way protecting yourself as others choose their own journey?

Howdy! I missed posting yesterday because I worked an hour on an improvisational embroidery and didn’t have much to show!

Okay, so this evening after a long day with the horses, I went back into this sweet little blue-bird.

Spring Fever

Around each corner

Sweet wafts of flowers scent air

Visual delight.

Art Prescription: I enjoyed a full studio day yesterday. Doors open, slight breeze, garden alive with birds and bees.

On a roll I listed 7 new watercolors in my Etsy shop! Wondering which ones you like for cards?

Lawn Maintenance

Daily now I hear

The sound of mower engines

Smell of fresh cut grass.

Art Prescription: Suddenly the grass grows inches per day! Every day a different neighbor is mowing. And Edging. And leaf blowing! Hope they wear ear protection!

Here’s my demo brush painting from my class at NC Botanical Garden last Saturday. I worked on it to pull it into unity. Does it work?

Tiny Journal Entry

It’s rodeo day

Obstacle course, barrel race

Dust rises with hooves.

Art Prescription: What fun to do rodeo games. I rode Carson, since my horse Finn has a sore back.

Carson did great! What a good boy!

Home to ponder on my embroidery idea. Tried stitching various bases. Watercolor paper too hard, index card works but buckles, tissue paper too soft.

Ended up with a couple of embroidered leaves into my tiny journal…

Ahhhh…. just right:
