Coffee Stains

Coffee stains in bed

Pulls the comforter closer

Turns the page of book

Art Prescription: Cold, grey, rainy day. As I drag myself over to the pool to swim, I have thoughts of staying cuddled in bed reading.

Two cats would surely join me with approval.

Alas…one must make good choices.

This piece did start with coffee stains. I noticed the paper towel under my morning cup. I cut some “flowers” out, glued them into my journal and added background.

Art Journal with coffee stained paper towel and watercolor:

Cold

Put on a sweatshirt

Then flannel pajama pants

Still cold in the house.

Art Prescription: I’ve worked on a commission today. It’s coming along.

To relax I drew this pattern with my Caran D’ache crayons.

Cycle

The cycle of life

Smell from a burning wood fire

Spring rumbles beneath.

Art Prescription: The smell of a wood fire. Warmth. Cozy. Winter.

Daffodils are blooming. Soon spring ephemerals will follow.

Mixed media:

Wildflowers

A wildflower patch

Fresh green leaves and pink blossoms

Rise from winter’s grip.

Art Prescription: Now is the time to begin looking for spring ephemeral wildflowers.

Before the forest leaves branch out and shade the sun, these delicate blooms dot the forest floor with glee.

Along roads and in pastures:

Watercolor and Wine

Tables dressed in white

Paint, brushes, paper, and straws

Each piece work of art.

Art Prescription: What an honor to be the artist for Watercolor and Wine for Valentines at the North Carolina Botanical Garden.

The event planner and her staff did a beautiful job decorating for the event.

I took off my horse boots and got gussied up to lead a group of 65 people to paint a spring forest. We blew paint with straws and then added color and spattering!

What always amazes me is that if given the opportunity most adults find their creative voice. “I haven’t done this since high school,” is common.

I of course reviewed the mind, body, spirit benefits of creativity. This table was delighted with their paintings.

My mission for the Art Prescription has always been to share the joys of creativity for body, mind, and spirit. Tonight! mission accomplished!!

Patience

Patience and time

To bring the outside indoors

On a blank paper.

Art Prescription: I like to paint fast with brush strokes and color. Kind of Chinese brush painting westernized.

Some projects ask me to slow down with a well-done drawing and paint added little by little.

Butterfly in progress:

Cuddle

A place on the bed

Where we can make air biscuits

Purring like a Ford.

Art Prescription: After last week and the warm temperatures, I liked to froze feeding horses in the 30 degree temps.

My spoiled cats are cuddled in bed:

I started a another butterfly sketch:

First Up

The sky is grey, cold

Along the fence in pine woods

Yellow Buttercups!

Art Prescription: Early morning and cold, brrrr, feeding of horses.

Along the pine woods I noticed yellow buttercups raising their brave heads.

So beautiful waving to the horses to hold tight spring is coming.
