Courtship

Cold, courtship started

Relationships take much time

Investment in love.

Art Prescription: So even in the cold January wind birds begin their calls and courtship. Nature seems to know these things take time and commitment.

It’s all a natural build up to spring!

Grandmother’s Cactus

Grandmother’s cactus

Blooms long after she is gone

Leaving her laughter.

Art Prescription: My maternal grandmother, “Annie,” was everything good in life. Grew and canned her own garden. Had corn-bread frying in the pan, sliced-fresh tomatoes, and apple-fritters.

I have her Christmas cactus which is blooming now!

Night Sounds: Tiny Journal

I could hear the moon

Through my window, four am

Party in the woods.

Art Prescription: As the full moon shone brightly through my sleepless window, I couldn’t help but think about mice having a picnic under yellow glow.

Wonder if thinking about mice at four am is a consequence or cause of insomnia?

Quite a lovely scene: tiny Journal:

Mixing Color

Hi Y’all,

Today I worked in the studio on a house portrait. It’s a yellow house, which seems simple, but when I started mixing colors I ran into too green, too bright, too warm, too dull, too just not right!

A technique I learned as a botanical illustration student is to punch a hole in a piece of spare paper and hold over the exact color you are trying to match.

I’ve added some background, but this house has a long ways to go!

Lunar Eclipse

Super blood wolf moon

Powerful, transformative

Glow over the earth.

Art Prescription: I’m sitting out on the deck in an Adirondack chair covered in a thick blanket as the temperature continues to drop. 18 degrees tonight!

So tired last night I didn’t post. I did paint over a doodle sheet with acrylics. Random color, nothing specific.

I found a corner I liked and cut it out. Used colored pencil to finish this small work. Made me happy!

Challenge

Painting multiple dogs in a single portrait is hard!! This afternoon I declared this a disaster and planned to start over.

Then I began to patiently add shadow and let’s see how I feel in the morning!

Long lived day…

Clean Sheets

Fresh from the dryer

Still warm to touch as I spread

Clean sheets for tonight.

Art Prescription: Simple luxuries bring me pleasure. Clean sheets and cuddly blankets! What else does a girl need?
