Steal like an artist
Be inspired by someone else
Go ahead, copy.
Art Prescription: I’m big on copyright and would never try to sell a painting I painted in another artist’s style.
And as the book with that title, “Steal like an artist,” says, it’s okay to be inspired by other’s work.
Think about the great Impressionists.
So I’ve been looking at a few artists who do abstract acrylics, and here’s my take:
It’s a flipping phone
Blast from the past, push buttons
Art Prescription: This is a piece of art done my my good friend Parasol B for the Smart Phone Art Show which opened tonight! If you are local to Durham, NC, go!
Inspiration for fashion
Leopards, giraffes too.
Art Prescription: Looks like animal prints are coming back around. Good! Hopefully it will remind all the fashionistas of our planet and the need to take good care. Peace!
A twister of leaves
Swirls up the street, red and gold
Comes to rest on curb.
Art Prescription: The wind does a dance with leaves.
Large canvas, freedom to play
Real? or under art?
Art Prescription: What started out as a tree painting on a big canvas – 5 ft tall – became an expression of loose brush-strokes and spattering…so therapeutic!! I will return to this tomorrow to paint a “proper” tree, but for now, ahhhhhh…cheaper than counseling and oh!! the color!!
“The artist only needs the willingness to paint.”
“There’s always a clean white canvas.”
Taught an Art Prescription Workshop today with friends. My goal in mentoring is to help the individual bring out their artistic voice. To move away from expectations and to respond to what happens in the moment that paint and brush come together.
One man’s junk is another’s treasure…look at this fantastic ink work! I then colored it in…
