Haiku June 4, 2013 Layers of Life

The spiral of life

Layers of experience

Forms the whole one you!

Art Prescription:  Our experiences and genetics make up who we are and how we perceive the world around us. Relationships and communication are much more complicated than we think. Best we can do is to try and love each other through it all…

Haiku June 3, 2013 Storm Front

Dark storm front sweeps in

Meadow moves, chaotic waves

June rain soaks garden.

Art Prescription: Watching a rolling storm front move in is miraculous. Clouds constantly changing, wind picks up, temperature drops. The smell of rain coming…quick…go inside! Downpour.

Haiku June 2, 2013 Fledglings

Momma Mockingbird

Hunts, swoops, digs, catches fresh chow

Fledglings shrill in bush!

Art Prescription:  The amount of fledgling raucous going on right now points to the constant job of parenting. I recognize the shrill cries of different species waiting in hiding for their next treat. Until they know how to forage on their own, baby birds are nurtured along by both parents.

Haiku May 30, 2013 Fishing

Side by side they walk

One carries pole, other net

Summertime fishing.

Art Prescription:  I have many fish tales from my summers at grandma’s. Not a worry in the world, we’d head off to a relative’s pond with a tub of earth worms and a bamboo pole. Truth is the last time I went fishing was when I “hooked” my date’s head…yep I set the hook!! Now my husband, we don’t fish. We rode back to Chapel Hill, hook and line in tow, to have a physician friend excise the hook. I guess my years of summers in the country, my attempt to show – see I’m an outdoors kind-of -girl, did not make a grand impression. He married me anyways!!

Fresh sweet corn on cob

Art Prescription:  Fresh corn has arrived. Tonight I’m making a corn, tomato, fresh basil succotash, along with a mushroom mixed cheese wrap. Quick watercolor pencil sketch of my corn.

Haiku May 17, 2013 Real Friends

Ode to real girlfriends

True, honest fashion advice

Hold hand, jump with you!!

Art Prescription:  I leave soon to New York for Surtex! EEkk!.. Oddly I’m pretty calm. But that’s thanks to my very good friend who has walked me through this week on many levels. Long walks in our neighborhood, helped me load my new (wink) Ipad with my portfolio, and finally sat while I tried on multiples of outfits to determine which ones are right for the show. Deep and great bows to you my friend!! You know who you are. Wine and report of show in our near future!!

Haiku May 14, 2013 Surtex

Countdown to Surtex

So I dig, plant annuals

Get myself grounded.

Art Prescription:  I leave in a couple of days for Surtex in New York. I’m both excited and nervous. I’ve done this show a few times, but every year it all feels new. Along with Surtex is the National Stationery Show, the Contemporary Furniture Show, and this year an arts and crafts section which I’m thrilled to see. I do love home though, so today I worked a bit planting my garden so I have peace to come back to!
