Haiku March 31, 2013 Trout-lily

If Trout-lilys played

A musical instrument.

They’d be violins.

Art Prescription:  One of the main reasons I like sketching live is to feel the personality of a plant. As a certified botanical illustrator, we were taught to tell the plant’s story. Get your sketchbook and go out and draw…think you can’t draw? Just let your hand follow your eye. Get your brain, and what you think you see out of the way….just follow the contours of the subject.

Haiku March 21, 2013 Gentleness

Gentleness of spring

Warmth and care like summer breeze

Share it with people.

Art Prescription:  A day at my nursing job always reminds me of how much I have to be thankful for! Knowing there are many things I cannot change, my hope is to deliver a moment of kindness and warmth. What do you want to be remembered for? What brings you pride and serenity?

Haiku March 18, 2013 Embrace Love

Sleepy-eyed I fall

Into my lover’s embrace

Grey morning, warm hug.

Art Prescription:  On the edge of sleep when you haven’t fully connected with the busy world is a perfect time to embrace your loves. Spouses, partners, children, pets, spirit! Embrace connecting with them.

Haiku March 6, 2013 Library Woes

Heart beats for knowledge

So many books, day, seconds

To take it all in!

Art Prescription:  Do you ever feel overwhelmed when you walk into a library or book store and think I want to read it all!! Life is so glorious and complicated, and there is so much to learn! Was it Shakespeare who said, “the world is too much.”
