Leaves gather on ground
Float on by, hit my windshield
And it’s still ninety.
Art Prescription: Fall comes in subtle.
Index card with watercolor, pen and ink, and my chop that says “hope”

Roses in the bud
Fill a mason jar with joy
A simple pleasure.
Art Prescription: When it comes right down to pleasure, simple is perfect! Not that “perfect” matters at all when it comes to the heart. More that you experience a moment or two of joy…this is living.
Watercolor 8 1/2 x 11

Energy, chaos
Collide, lack of direction
Listen to your heart.
Art Prescription: Seems a lot of people have trouble mid-season. It’s not the start or the end of anything, it’s just in the middle, and for those of us in the south, hot! What if each day was the start of something! Your life! What are you waiting for?
Index card with pen and ink and colored pencil:

June blooms, Queen Ann’s Lace
A short season of spotlight
And then go to seed.
Art Prescription: I find many metaphors in the garden. We are each here to bloom and shine as best as we know how. So, what are you waiting for?!!!
Index card with acrylic and watercolor:

Who’s behind the mask
Is it your authentic self?
Or an impostor?
Art Prescription: In a search for everything real…what can you touch, feel, see, smell, hear, each and every day of your one precious life?
Mask with acrylics:

Snow-bound in cabin
Deep in the woods, a fire roars
No place to go now.
Art Prescription: What?… Wake?… Get back to work? …Well it was good while it lasted!!
Acrylic on paper:

A straight direct course
Would be so much easier
Than all these circles.
Art Prescription: And round and round we must go…picking up juicy tidbits on our journey. A course, straight to the honey, would lack in adventure. It would pale to the wandering and coming up lost now and again. It would probably be uneventful, without any family rows, work blow-ups, marriage quarrels… things would just naturally fall into place! How boring!!
As the year comes to an end, let’s give thanks to our circles. May our many curves be blessed and honored, and fasten your seat belt for the new year!
8 x 8 acrylic with graphite

Holiday posy
White and green chrysanthemums
Festive red rose hips.
Art Prescription: I really enjoyed putting together festive holiday mini-bouquets for my friends and neighbors.
8 x 8 watercolor, pen and ink and colored pencil

Seconds of my life
Click by on the microwave
Quick grits are ready!
Art Prescription: And let’s remember each small thing. Lucky to have hot grits with butter, even if I did eat them standing up between patients. A bite here, ooh that’s hot, a bite there, more butter? What do elephants and grits have to do with one another? Hot grits…cute critter with flowers…TGIF y’all!
Index card with colored pencil

While woods grow gray, cold
Summer lives on in my mind
Roses in full bloom.
Art Prescription: As the fall color is fading my imagination takes me back to summer.
