Haiku October 21, 2012 Leaves Rehearse

Childhood laughter soars

Neighbors out in fall perfect

Leaves rehearse for show!

Art Prescription:  As I took my afternoon walk, my neighborhood was lively with kids and families out enjoying this mild NC fall weather. Big blue sky, perhaps need a sweat-shirt. I painted with my studio door open…much to show later. Get out there while the weather is perfect for sketching or painting outside!

Haiku October 18, 2012 Sketch Break!!

Light rain falls, grey sky

Sunset casts pink purple glow

Pumpkins smile on porch!

Art Prescription:  Busy day! Time for a quick sketch! Our days can easily get occupied by the demands of our jobs, family, etc. Taking a 10 minute break to sit quietly and look at the sunset, do a quick sketch, can bring peace and closure to an otherwise hectic day!!

Haiku October 10, 2012 Delicate Life

Delicamente

A song for long precious life.

Holidays are here!

Art Prescription:  The iconoclastic pumpkin is…simply beautiful. I’ve painted, so far, three different variations of the pumpkin and will share in future blogs. I’m busy cutting rice paper leaves for the UNC Hospital Remembering Tree and had lots of small pieces of paper left over. Always a fan of trying a new technique, I made a tiny collage.

Haiku October 7, 2012 Jewels

Last weekend light fades

Squirrels scamper to their nests

Jewels fall from trees!

Art Prescription:  Long lived weekend! Yard work, pumpkins, cupcakes!! Lots of being outside! Try watercolor sketching a leaf or two! This one will go out as a Haiku O Gram tomorrow!!

Haiku October 1, 2012 Great Grandmother’s Quilt

Great Grandmother’s quilt

Offers warmth as degrees drop

Stitch by stitch with love.

Art Prescription:  We are so lucky to have about five quilts made by my ancestors. Both my mom’s mother and my dad’s parents quilted, and this is back in the day where it was all done by hand! I remember my grandmother’s living room being transformed into a quilting bee as the furniture was moved back, the  quilt racks went up, and she and my aunt would sit and sew for hours. Today I did a watercolor sketch of a section of quilt just for fun.  Look around your house to find inspiration!
