Winter, green bamboo
Graceful leaves nod at bare trees
Secret hiding place.
Art Prescription: Have you ever come upon a tall bamboo forest in winter? A canopy of green in the midst of naked trees. A secret hiding place. Thick and tall. Sunshine rays slip in. Smells like vetiver.
Index card with watercolor and my chop that says, “hope.”
Surest way to hear
The soft strains of harmony
Is in the silence.
Art Prescription: My way to refuel from life’s demands is to go sit in a field with horses in pure silence. I listen to birds, cicadas, squirrels foraging, the horses snorting and chomping on grass. And in that big expanse, I realize how precious life is, how important it is to feed your soul. Everyone is different. For me quiet gifts fill me up, and I’m am so grateful for the simple.

Roads white with snow, ice
Long walk to grocery store
Sleet clicks on bamboo!
Art Prescription: So cool to stand quietly under a canopy of bamboo and listen to the sleet click, click, tap, tap.
One more coat should do

Crickets and frogs sing
Through my open window now
As moon sweeps the sky!
Art Prescription: Going to sleep to the tune of the woods, a cool breeze crossing my sheets, and the harvest moon lighting the way, bliss! A very simple pleasure!

Brush strokes capture the essence
Moment on paper.
Art Prescription: I went to a Chinese Brush Stroke class today at the NC Botanical Garden taught by Alice, her American name. With a gentle demeanor she demonstrates the ancient art of brush painting. She teaches us it’s not about the accuracy of the painting, but the feeling…the Chi, and make sure to leave room in your painting for movement of energy. We worked on herons today. And swallows!
