Pool, not a ripple
Acorns scatter the cool ground
Gold-dust in the fields

The box is singing
Fledglings are making some noise
Do the parents sleep?
Art Prescription: Mother Nature’s tenacity is amazing. Every minute or so I see one of the chickadee parents leave the box to go grocery shopping. The box gets quiet. And as soon as one of the parents flies in, there is a lot of sweet high-note chirping going on.
Index card with colored pencil:
Creek, river, ocean
Life is running to its source
The end of the year.
Art Prescription: We all do it…the end of the year tabulation. The time between Christmas and New Years is always a time of retrospection. We add and subtract and divide and try and figure out what this new year will bring.
Put it out there, your hopes and dreams. Visualize it happening. Toast to your new year!
Index card with colored pencil:
Not birds entirely
In contrast with things that sing
The mind and the wind.
Art Prescription: Sometimes the mind and the wind whip around without direction, a force not to be tamed, but acknowledged.
Abstract watercolor:
Heard the news today
People and things come and go
The circle of life.
Art Prescription: One of my favorite horses is leaving the farm. I will miss this gentle giant, and grieve. Gives a slight meaning to “birds of a feather.”

Watercolor discipline
A technique practice.
Art Prescription: Bird feathers and eggs are a good way to explore the many ways to lay down watercolor on paper. Today in my studio we explored wet on wet, and blending watercolors.

Flock of wild turkeys
Gather in field, they do not
Wish they were peacocks.
Art Prescription: So your neighbor has decked the halls and baked (home-made) a holiday cookie batch to sin for. Meanwhile you say the mantra “less is more, less is more.” And actually you are okay with that. You watch as the cardinal steals a sunflower seed from the nuthatch, and you sigh…life is good…life is really good.
