Teen Boys October 15, 2014

Down the hill they go

Skateboards! choreographed speed

Practice makes perfect.

Art Prescription:  Two teen boys in my neighborhood have been practicing for a couple of days now going down and around on a hilly path. Muddy from crashing, they giggle and try again. Just two boys and their wheels…no thought of the past or the future…just the now.

Puddle Jumping October 14, 2014

Hard steady fall rain

Forgot your umbrella, well

Find a puddle, jump!

Art Prescription:  Why do some folks complain about the rain? As kids we found things joyful no matter what. When was the last time you jumped into a big rain puddle!! ?? Go ahead, you have my permission…

Haiku November 23, 2012 All for One

A flock of wild geese

Turn direction at same time

One for all, all one!

Art Prescription:  Researchers have long been fascinated by the flocking behavior of birds and fish. How in one sudden flash they all turn and move in unison. One theory is that of “collective thinking.” Or that there is some electromagnetic principal going on. Either way it’s a beautiful sight. Sit back and watch birds flying south for the winter. They turn and land in the trees as a group, creating interesting sound effects in the forest. What if all of mankind were to work together like this?

Smitten… chemistry

Bee hovers over new rose

Intoxicated!!

Art Prescription:  Sometimes in life you just hit “like!” The chemistry of attraction is bold, firm, and soft! It’s the mood that says sleep is irrelevant. In all honesty, all but the sleep thing, I like to sleep, I would still hit the “like” button on my guy!

Haiku September 21, 2012 Goals

Determination

Rain, stream, creek, river, ocean

Movement towards the whole.

Art Prescription:  What gives people will? Why are some people driven? Or better stated what drives people’s behavior? It’s difficult not to judge others based on our opinion which rises out of our own life learned perspective. For me personally, I do hope I can always consider another person’s point of view, be a good listener, and simply try to show kindness. One drop of water flows endlessly to where is belongs…moves along with the flow of life.

Haiku September 14, 2012 Rose Garden

September roses

Late blooms announce season end

Time to rest, renew.

Art Prescription:  Here in NC roses bloom sometimes into October. I know, we are lucky. I don’t have the heart to do the prescribed cut when my roses still have buds. But it is necessary. Parallel to life there is a time to grow and a time to rest. Fall signals nature to begin the journey to rest. We all need rest to renew…

Haiku August 23, 2012 Mind Power

Mind creates a thought

Spirit listens, makes choices

Road block, end, new path?

Art Prescription:  Daily life creates many options for our minds to ponder. Whether it’s choosing to eat well and take care of our bodies, or something big like a major job change, I believe how we think at our core effects us deeply. Is the cup half full or half empty. If it’s cloudy,  is their a storm brewing or a silver lining. Does everything come with a judgement of bad or good? Or is it possible that some things just are…and don’t have a bearing on this one life we live here and now? Lots of philosophical questions to ponder…
