The herd sees you now
They ask with their bodies, who?
You answer with chi.
Art Prescription: Learn from watching.
He courts her with worm
They mate for life, cardinals.
Year-round backyard birds!
Art Prescription: I taught an Art Prescription Workshop today, Fabulous You! I asked my group to paint in their journals what they want more of in their lives. What does YES look like? We started off with random watercolor brush-strokes and washes, and then we moved to imagery. It always inspires me to see the art that happens when people give themselves permission to play. Here is my vision page:
Glistening water
Jets towards bird bath, hummer flies
Darts in, out of stream!
Art Prescription: This time of year requires daily refilling bird bath. While spraying clean water in the bath, and also watering newly planted impatiens, a hummingbird darted through stream. So fast! Just getting a quick shower! Here’s a sneak peek at some new check designs…
To trust in your muse
Step aside for a new voice
Completely let go!!
Art Prescription: I had a great group today in my Art Prescription: Art Journaling Workshop. I asked them to do something really hard. Put together a collage of beautiful images, and then completely paint over it!! I have to say there was reluctance. I gently prodded, and even encouraged one participant to retrieve her “trashed” painting and stick with the transition. So many life metaphors. The theme was Wholeness, and I wanted them to work through creating something and then let go of the original piece, transition it to something brand new, healing. Their end products were amazing!! and suddenly they saw that their muse was there all along!!
Final coat of paint.
The muse looks and nods and cuts!
Parts greater than whole!
Art Prescription: The last few posts including today’s are all part of one painting. After several layers of reworking, this piece was just not happening. When you feel stuck with art, go for a walk and see what happens. I came back from my walk and began to cut the one piece up into about 5 small trading card size miniatures. Each one had an interesting texture and spoke to me. I worked quickly with pen and ink feeling satisfied with all my parts!! Try it!
Recipe for joy
Take paper, color, and line
Mix, add spice. Enjoy!
Art Prescription: Spent time in my studio art journaling, and in the woods nature sketching. Sweet!! Sat in one place and sketched about four different wildflowers (stay tuned). In the studio I worked on a piece inspired by 21 Secrets, an art journaling workshop I’m participating in…this was fun!
Rich earth, woodsy smell
Steady shower of leaves fall
Ground collage takes shape.
Art Prescription: An early walk in the woods is good for the soul! Standing there watching morning sunlight stream in as leaves dance and sway to the ground is magical. I felt for a moment, oh no! what if this were not here! So quiet and peaceful there…like no other place.
Delicamente
A song for long precious life.
Holidays are here!
Art Prescription: The iconoclastic pumpkin is…simply beautiful. I’ve painted, so far, three different variations of the pumpkin and will share in future blogs. I’m busy cutting rice paper leaves for the UNC Hospital Remembering Tree and had lots of small pieces of paper left over. Always a fan of trying a new technique, I made a tiny collage.
