Haiku July 15, 2013 Horses

Warm velvet soft nose

Smell of fresh hay and cut grass

Afternoon horse barn.

Art Prescription:  There is just something about being around horses. Their warm brown eyes and soft ears, majestic musculature, swishy tails, the smell of leather, and a historic relationship. We’ve long been bound to these creatures.

Rejuvination

A spring of positive strength

Renew, refresh, grow!!

Art Prescription:  I’ve had two very busy days at my nursing job. Life presents us many ways to grow and learn. Art is a perfect conduit for catharsis, a way to channel emotions, and come out on the other side with a sense of renewal.

Sun spiragira

Intricate patterns emerge

Rings of rays blossom,

Art Prescription:  Did you know the “petals” of the sunflower are not true petals? The true flowers are the tiny rays that form the amazing spiral design on the head of a sunflower and many other “ray” flowers. Here’s another watercolor pencil sketch, finished with a quick big brush of water.

Haiku July 7, 2013 Be Brave

With the will of ants

Nature’s determination

It’s time to be brave.

Art Prescription:  Have you ever watched the determination of an ant,  or group of ants, trying to carry something. One ant will try to move something 10 times its size.

Big, red, ripe, juicy

Fresh produce, farm to market

Tomato sandwich!

Art Prescription:  Summer means juicy, sun-ripened tomatoes. I know there is a lot of argument out there with how to appropriately build a tomato sandwich. Some are strictly BLT advocates…and yes this is a good option. Others say mayonnaise is the essential makings of a tomato sandwich. Me. I’m a purist. Just a freshly sliced tomato on bread and I can taste the sun.
