Haiku May 29, 2013 Fly By

Glistening water

Jets towards bird bath, hummer flies

Darts in, out of stream!

Art Prescription:  This time of year requires daily refilling bird bath. While spraying clean water in the bath, and also watering newly planted impatiens, a hummingbird darted through stream. So fast! Just getting a quick shower!  Here’s a sneak peek at some new check designs…

Haiku May 28, 2013 Smell of Grease Paint

Scent of fresh cedar

Brand new possibilities

Unwrap white canvas.

Art Prescription:  Like actors who love “the smell of grease paint,” I love the smell of a new canvas. Cedar is often used to make stretcher bars for canvas. So when I unwrap a fresh white canvas my studio becomes scented with possibilities!!

Art Prescription:  Fresh corn has arrived. Tonight I’m making a corn, tomato, fresh basil succotash, along with a mushroom mixed cheese wrap. Quick watercolor pencil sketch of my corn.

Haiku May 22, 2013 Programed to Bloom

Programed to bloom pink

Roses explode with spring glee

Blush with rich color!!

Art Prescription:  The garden is taking off now…roses, phlox, Gerber daisies! The roses are always so fresh. We cut them and bring them inside to enjoy their natural perfume. What’s blooming in your yard?

Haiku May 14, 2013 Surtex

Countdown to Surtex

So I dig, plant annuals

Get myself grounded.

Art Prescription:  I leave in a couple of days for Surtex in New York. I’m both excited and nervous. I’ve done this show a few times, but every year it all feels new. Along with Surtex is the National Stationery Show, the Contemporary Furniture Show, and this year an arts and crafts section which I’m thrilled to see. I do love home though, so today I worked a bit planting my garden so I have peace to come back to!
