Haiku May 27, 2013 Object Desire

Things lost and then found

One’s trash, another’s treasure

Objects of desire.

Art Prescription:  Two scenarios here. One, my hand-painted stool will be found tomorrow in an assortment of boxes at Goodwill, or two, some child is laughing at their new silly cat and mouse stool! Why do we humans get so attached to inanimate objects? My husband who is a get things done kind-of-guy, most of the time an excellent trait, inadvertently took my beloved field-sketching stool to the Goodwill. I’m wrangling with thoughts of a child loving their new object, and mourning the loss of MY STOOL! MINE! Okay, so this is where my years of yoga and practicing letting go might really come in handy, MINE! Sometimes all the practice in the world doesn’t equate to our humanly notions of hanging on, letting things define our life, getting stuck and not moving on, learning to share…

Haiku May 4, 2013 Spring Trees

Wind rolls through the trees

Branches wave about with grace

Leaves whisper and stir.

Art Prescription:  Spent much of my day at Mason Farm Biological Preserve! Heard “my” owls, but they were hiding. The beautiful lush green trees are like emeralds in the sky.

Inch-worm ornaments

Hang by silk thread from spring trees

Geometer moths.

Art Prescription:  These little worms are hitch-hikers. Next thing you know you have an inch worm on your shoulder. Carefully remove them and place them on a nearby leaf. They are on a journey to become Geometer Moths. A huge family of moths, around 35,000 species, and their colors vary from flat greys to vibrant pinks.

Haiku April 8, 2013 Grandmother

Remembering her

Small bathroom smelled like Dove soap

White uniform starched.

Art Prescription:  My grandmother’s birthday was April 6th. So I’ve had her and memories of her on my mind. She was a nurse, and I was scripted to take after her in every way.  Her shoes hung in an over-the-closet shoe container. Like me though, or should I say like her…we both prefer to be in the garden!!

Haiku April 7, 2013 Art Journal

Recipe for joy

Take paper, color, and line

Mix, add spice. Enjoy!

Art Prescription:  Spent time in my studio art journaling, and in the woods nature sketching. Sweet!! Sat in one place and sketched about four different wildflowers (stay tuned). In the studio I worked on a piece inspired by 21 Secrets, an art journaling workshop I’m participating in…this was fun!

Haiku April 6, 2013 Mason Farm Trees

Cathedral of trees

Arches path, Purple Nettle

Covers ground. Bees buzz!

Art Prescription:  At Mason Farm,   “My” owl is still sitting in her stag (a “lively” dead tree).  She nests in her hole by the creek as the sun crosses during the day. At night she hunts. My imagination thinks this would be a cool start to a nature book….just so magical to see!
