Haiku August 11, 2013 Layers

Layers make a whole

Patience wins over hurry

Take your time, indulge.

Art Prescription:  I’m as guilty as the next for trying to hurry-up and get to the next task…and in the mean-time, text a friend, look at Facebook, and check e-mail.  We are such a culture of multitasking that it’s no wonder Attention Deficit Disorder is rampant. This afternoon I painted in my garden. For several hours I did nothing but take brush to paint to canvas. Sublime! This has some layers to go…

Haiku September 26, 2012 Time

Time marches forward

Like a lion free from cage

And never looks back!

Art Prescription:  Ever wonder what life was like before clocks or calendars? Humans lived a long time by the sun, moon, and stars…sounds peaceful doesn’t it? Now we have a gazillion gadgets that constantly remind us we are racing with time. Facebook has made us a constant observer and publisher of our own lives and a voyeur of others. (disclaimer – I like Facebook) Tomorrow is Thursday and time for me to leave my studio for my nursing job. My goal for this week was to get my new “Mandala Blue” collection out to a table-top company! and I did! A word on persistence by Lebanese poet Hoda al-Namai:

I have not withdrawn into despair,

I did not go mad in gathering honey,

I did not go mad,

I did not go mad,

I did not go mad.

Haiku August 21, 2012 August Change

Light fades, days shorten

Summer vacation over

August, back to school.

Art Prescription:  Sam and I have not had a proper summer vacation, but I know from following my friends on Facebook that travels are coming to a close and it’s back to school time.  Remember how long summers were as a kid? It was truly a season all to itself. Despite technology I think the thrill of a new notebook, colored pencils, pens, and arranging your desk is still something to look forward to…then homework starts. The lure of something new, a new school year, a new Autumn, new projects! Let’s go to the art store!! (went to Jerry’s Artarama in Raleigh today!)
