Peak

Golden yellows, reds

Half on trees, half on the ground

Fall peak, then winter.

Art Prescription: Seems like fall peak here. Colors are gorgeous, and leaves are falling steadily.

I’m working on a new Stitch Kit.

Fall Posy October 25, 2015

Freshly cut flowers

Seems trees have changed overnight

Mason Jar posy.

Art Prescription:  We are so lucky here in North Carolina that flowers continue to bloom on through October. We haven’t had that first cold frost yet. So I happily plucked a Mason Jar full of flowers and set about to watercolor them. Makes me about as happy as anything…

Euphonious October 20, 2015

Sharp, bright, fall sunlight

Euphonious, crickets hum

Musical meadow.

Art Prescription:  The sun is sharp these days. Once up, she burns off frosted windshields…moves on to de-thaw grass. And still the crickets hum softly in the meadow.

Afternoon Shadows October 16, 2015

Afternoon shadows

Fall on black cows in pasture

Grain bin keeps the gate.

Art Prescription: As I do most Fridays after my two RN days, I headed out to see Finn at the farm. I can be completely exhausted, and my visit with the horses and fresh air renews my spirit. On the way home I take in the gently rolling pastures. Today a herd of black cows against the green pasture made me pull over. As I sat in a drive a white truck approached me. “You okay honey.” “Yes sir, I just pulled off to take a picture of your cows, may I.” “You sure can. Did ya see the babies? They are probably off down near the woods. They are purdy.” He backed up the drive. He had only come down to see if I needed help. Country. A far cry from the news of the day. Just people watching out for each other. I got my photo and headed home. Sigh…

No Clocks Allowed October 14, 2015

Time spent on horseback

A gentle sway, keeping time

With nature’s tonic.

Art Prescription:  There are two ways to keep time. One is by the clock, calendar, meetings, deadlines…and the other is by the soul where no clocks are allowed. Most of us live by the clock, chasing, running, getting it done! What if we lived by joy, quiet, time spent staring off into the woods (on a horse’s back). Of course you guys know I’m preaching to myself!!! I need to spend more time chasing spirit instead of the almighty clock.

Scoville Scale October 6, 2015

Sneaky small pepper

Spiced up butternut squash soup

Burst of capsaicin.

Art Prescription:  I got a load of peppers from a friend. Green peppers, jalepeno peppers, and some small slender peppers I thought to be mild. I proceeded to put four of those babies into my cream of butternut squash soup and whoa baby those peppa’s packed some heat. It was good though, not too hot for us to eat, but next time I may remove the seeds and just have the lovely flavor without the after-burn, lol.

And Right There You Are October 4, 2015

The shadow of fall

There’s the promise of sunsets

Don’t need a passport.

Art Prescription:  Found poetry. Scan a magazine and look for words or phrases that speak to you. Cut and paste into your journal, or as I’ve done here onto an index card.

October Rain October 2, 2015

October comes in

With big buckets full of rain

Studio warm, dry.

Art Prescription:  I love the sound of rain on my studio roof. So soothing as I lay down watercolor washes. Big clouds hover over North Carolina, but looks the hurricane is going out to sea. Fall is upon us…nice cool weather.
