Haiku November 4, 2012 Twisted

Spiral, twist, and turn

Double helix that is life

Deep in the fall woods!

Art Prescription:  Everyone needs favorite places. This painting, a new exciting size of watercolor blocks 4 x 10 ish, was created from a place near our home called The Farm. Lush woods and a bamboo forest. Pretty in all seasons! Find one thing that captures your eye and build around it.

Haiku October 14, 2012 Walk at Mason Farm

Last fall flowers bloom

Seed pods stand over meadow

Release fancy wings.

Art Prescription:  We walked our favorite place, Mason Farm. Seems just a week or so ago the open meadows were filled with yellow Partridge Peas and pink wild roses. Now a few asters remain and interesting seed pods take the place of flowers. A sea of golden rod, yellow grasses and a hint of reds now stretches out against the wooded backdrop. We did see a pretty striped snake along the trail. Mason Farm is a beautiful nature preserve with a few different habitats. Lots of birds, owls, foxes, coyote, to name a few! A great place for a nature sketcher!

Haiku October 10, 2012 Delicate Life

Delicamente

A song for long precious life.

Holidays are here!

Art Prescription:  The iconoclastic pumpkin is…simply beautiful. I’ve painted, so far, three different variations of the pumpkin and will share in future blogs. I’m busy cutting rice paper leaves for the UNC Hospital Remembering Tree and had lots of small pieces of paper left over. Always a fan of trying a new technique, I made a tiny collage.

Haiku October 9, 2012 Migration

Symphony in trees

Silver streaks of black birds fly

South for the winter!

Art Prescription:  If you wake to a cacophony of birds in the trees, it’s likely flocks and flocks of black birds making their way south for winter. They are so noisy! And then one flap of the wing sends the whole bunch of them off to follow the pack. Nature’s rhythm amazes me! How at just the right time flora and fauna know their job…no questioning or laboring like us humans…should of, could of, would of, what if…

Haiku October 5, 2012 Allegro

Allegro for fall

Hot coffee and pumpkin patch

Dry leaves swirl to ground.

Art Prescription:  If you spend any time gazing out the window these days you will see leaves floating to a resting spot on earth. Many writers acknowledge the slightly sad, melancholy feelings that come with fall. There is that…There is also the refreshing cool weather when hot beverages warm the hand, and autumn color burst onto the scene with bright orange and red. Tomorrow I’m heading to a local pumpkin patch for visuals to feed my artist eye!!
