Could be anywhere
Bright lights, crowds, music, and yet
Right now I’m so here!

Iphone photo Mapleview Farm, North Carolina
Fall, Orange County
The fields, acres of fresh dirt
Tractor tracks remain.
Art Prescription: As I drive past Maple View Farm on the way home from riding Finn, the fields are so freshly plowed they glow orange.
Index card with watercolor:
A deer clears the fence
Horses lift their heads from grass
Blackberries galore.
Art Prescription: Went out to see Finn this afternoon. So serene in the pasture. A single deer comes bolting out of no where and jumps over the fence. Stellar athelete! Meanwhile there are ripening blackberries all along the woods.
Index card with watercolor and colored pencil:
Like spaghetti strands
Horses eat steady supply
Of hay to keep warm.
Art Prescription: My horse is so well cared for during these cold winter nights. He gets lots of hay to keep his metabolism going, which is how horses stay warm. Night, night, Finn…
Watercolor 8 x 8:
Afternoon shadows
Fall on black cows in pasture
Grain bin keeps the gate.
Art Prescription: As I do most Fridays after my two RN days, I headed out to see Finn at the farm. I can be completely exhausted, and my visit with the horses and fresh air renews my spirit. On the way home I take in the gently rolling pastures. Today a herd of black cows against the green pasture made me pull over. As I sat in a drive a white truck approached me. “You okay honey.” “Yes sir, I just pulled off to take a picture of your cows, may I.” “You sure can. Did ya see the babies? They are probably off down near the woods. They are purdy.” He backed up the drive. He had only come down to see if I needed help. Country. A far cry from the news of the day. Just people watching out for each other. I got my photo and headed home. Sigh…

Time spent on horseback
A gentle sway, keeping time
With nature’s tonic.
Art Prescription: There are two ways to keep time. One is by the clock, calendar, meetings, deadlines…and the other is by the soul where no clocks are allowed. Most of us live by the clock, chasing, running, getting it done! What if we lived by joy, quiet, time spent staring off into the woods (on a horse’s back). Of course you guys know I’m preaching to myself!!! I need to spend more time chasing spirit instead of the almighty clock.
Sounding the alarm
Squats and bobs, tail held up high
Carolina Wren.
Art Prescription: I love watching these spunky little birds bob and call. They have a distinctive little dance and posture. They are small, but they can cover a big territory with their chattering. Don’t we all need to know how far our voice carries? Are people hearing us when we ask for what we need?
Index card with pen and ink and colored pencil:
Sneaky small pepper
Spiced up butternut squash soup
Burst of capsaicin.
Art Prescription: I got a load of peppers from a friend. Green peppers, jalepeno peppers, and some small slender peppers I thought to be mild. I proceeded to put four of those babies into my cream of butternut squash soup and whoa baby those peppa’s packed some heat. It was good though, not too hot for us to eat, but next time I may remove the seeds and just have the lovely flavor without the after-burn, lol.
