Beech Trees February 8, 2014

Afraid to let go

Beech trees hold on to their leaves

Golden glow in winter.

Art Prescription:  Lovely day. Hiked about four miles and saw a Kinglet!! (future painting) Spent some time field sketching, then back to studio to add watercolor. This is a work in progress.

Farm Cure January 15, 2014

Warm sun hits my back

Barn cat slithers by for strokes

Roosters crow next door.

Art Prescription:  I went out to Blue Skies of Mapleview farm today for some soul restoration. Sitting under the big blue sky with horses soothes my restless spirit. Took my sketchbook.

Day at the Farm October 23, 2013

Who let the girls out?!?

Two mares gallop cross pasteur

And the boys go wild!

Art Prescription:  Spent a grand day at the farm…grooming, admiring, riding, sketching…bliss!! Horses have interesting angles and I’m finding them a challenging and phenomenal subject. Observing them is Zen.

Haiku September 1, 2013 Art Gift

Garden art fairy

Sketches and paints for shear bliss

A gift to stranger.

Art Prescription:  I went to the North Carolina Botanical Gardens today to field sketch. Using pen and ink and watercolor pencils, I worked on 3 x 5 index cards. And as I finished one I gave it to the first person who came by.

Pregnant with Possibility August 26, 2013

He holds her steady

She carries eight months in front

Soon will be strolling!

Art Prescription:  Ah, the life cycle…went to the North Carolina Botanical Gardens today to sketch. This time of year the flowers are starting to go to seed, preparation for a new spring, new plants. The shapes and textures of pods are interesting. At some point I shall do a study of pods. For now the flowers are still in bloom, and the butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds are abundant…heaven.

Haiku May 4, 2013 Spring Trees

Wind rolls through the trees

Branches wave about with grace

Leaves whisper and stir.

Art Prescription:  Spent much of my day at Mason Farm Biological Preserve! Heard “my” owls, but they were hiding. The beautiful lush green trees are like emeralds in the sky.
