Haiku May 6, 2013 Trust Your Muse

To trust in your muse

Step aside for a new voice

Completely let go!!

Art Prescription:  I had a great group today in my Art Prescription: Art Journaling Workshop. I asked them to do something really hard. Put together a collage of beautiful images, and then completely paint over it!! I have to say there was reluctance. I gently prodded, and even encouraged one participant to retrieve her “trashed” painting and stick with the transition. So many life metaphors. The theme was Wholeness, and I wanted them to work through creating something and then let go of the original piece, transition it to something brand new, healing.  Their end products were amazing!! and suddenly they saw that their muse was there all along!!

Haiku May 4, 2013 Spring Trees

Wind rolls through the trees

Branches wave about with grace

Leaves whisper and stir.

Art Prescription:  Spent much of my day at Mason Farm Biological Preserve! Heard “my” owls, but they were hiding. The beautiful lush green trees are like emeralds in the sky.

Haiku May 3, 2013 Parts of a Whole

Final coat of paint.

The muse looks and nods and cuts!

Parts greater than whole!

Art Prescription:  The last few posts including today’s are all part of one painting. After several layers of reworking, this piece was just not happening. When you feel stuck with art, go for a walk and see what happens. I came back from my walk and began to cut the one piece up into about 5 small trading card size miniatures. Each one had an interesting texture and spoke to me.  I worked quickly with pen and ink feeling satisfied with all my parts!! Try it!

Haiku May 1, 2013 Bird Song

Bird song vibrates air.

In the tops of trees they sing

Tenderness abounds.

Art Prescription:  So sweet to see the male birds bringing the female a snack, as if to say, “See I can provide.” And with her approval they find a perfect spot to nest.  He secures the property, and she takes over from there, nesting to her own taste. “Pine-straw is so last year.” He stands guard while she shops for things to feather their nest. There will be some eggs out of this!!

Haiku April 30, 2013 Come and Gone

Another April!

Blue roses sparkle dreamy

Garden filled with hopes!

Art Prescription:  “To live is so startling, it leaves little time for anything else.” …….Emily Dickinson

This is the way I feel looking at a meadow of wildflowers and not being able to draw each and every one!!

Haiku April 28, 2013 Spring Cleaning

Save for rainy day.

Boxes, bags, and tubs of stuff.

Spring clean, the garage!

Art Prescription:  What is it about us humans that we like to save stuff? Can’t discard something, because we might “need” it in the future. The future arrives and we find ourselves sorting through things we haven’t seen in a while, and still we feel attached. “That was my grandmothers,” or “from my childhood,” or “so and so gave that to me.” And so my rainy day was spent cleaning and clearing and my feng shui is alive and well!!

This is actually something I won’t part with…a charming cabinet made by my grandfather! Love it!
