Regal hawk on wire
Hunts over field and meadow
Tractor marks on dirt.
Art Prescription: A field through the seasons…sow, reap, plow. Fresh tractor marks on red dirt fields. Sketch on an envelope.
After morning ride
She gets a spray, cool water
Returns to the hay.
Art Prescription: Rode Miss Lacey this morning. Went early to beat the heat. I love spraying her down with cool water, washing the saddle-marked sweat from her white body. She enjoys it too! I return her to the paddock where fresh hay awaits. A grazing horse…Zen.
Tall, lush, green-blue grass
Ultra calm scene, horses graze
They own the meadow!
Art Prescription: Lovely morning at farm! Rode Lacey and got to hang out and do some ground work. Once done, the horses got to go out and graze in the tall grass. Yep! Makes them happy. Watercolor pencil sketch on index card.
Out beyond the gate
I find my breath, deep and full
On a white mare’s back.
Art Prescription: Rode Lacey today! Some ring work…my trot a little better…and then off into the woods and corn-fields. Lean forward going up-hill and lean back going down hill. I try to let her rhythm carry my body. Trust, let go and breathe. Folks this is big.
Afraid of corners?
Are you holding on too tight?
Can you sit back, down?
Art Prescription: I’m practicing awareness. Where does my energy go? Who and whom do I allow into my space, my energy field? When do I feel empowered, energized, and when do I feel depleted? Working with horses at Blue Skies of Mapleview is humbling. The horses, with their soft knowing gaze, are helping me get in touch with a couple of things, and it’s all that and more!
Laundry flaps in wind
Mares graze, tall grass, buttercups
Afternoon at farm.
Art Prescription: I sit and watch…observe their ears, their eyes, their tales as they swish at flies. They know I’m there. One of the most joyful things about sketching is simply the art of observation. I notice the sights, sounds, and smells of my surroundings. I get still and take it all in.
Bareback on “my” horse
I feel each step Pinto takes
Nothing else matters.
Art Prescription: Started my Intuitive Horseback Riding at Blue Skies Farm today! To launch us right off with breathing and being centered with our horse, we rode bareback. Beautiful! My legs were trembling with nerves and muscles fatigue, and it’s all good. At that point it was just me and Pinto. Trust…
