Ninety-six degrees
At the barn, my horse shimmers
Breathe, wabi-sabi.
Art Prescription: Sumi-ink and chop!
We drank Prosecco
At the barn, as we waited
For the horse trailer.
Art Prescription: A new horse arrived at the farm today. A beautiful “flea bitten” mare, which means she is white and dappled in grey. The hauler was late due to Memorial Day traffic, but this little beauty got off the trailer calm as could be. She ate grass while the geldings stood at attention in a cloud of excited dust.

Field crickets chirp, court
Call out for a female mate
Wind carries their song.
Art Prescription: Ending my week sitting in the middle of a field with horses and crickets. Most of the song you hear from crickets are the males serenading the females…sound familiar? And it’s their wings that make the sound not their legs. Beautiful to just sit and listen to the breeze, a couple of cardinals, sounds of horses chomping grass, and a distant caw of crows.

Rain on a tin roof
Makes a barn nice and cozy
Horses get more hay.
Art Prescription: So I was out caring for Finn while two classes of 8 to 10 year old girls came to the farm for lessons. A steady rain meant no riding, but there is so much more to learn at the barn about caring for horses. It’s getting cool tonight so the girls helped put out extra hay for all.
Pen and ink and watercolor sketch
Sugar, spice, and sass
Sweet little mare with long bangs
Knew what I needed.
Art Prescription: I rode Shelly today. After feeding over the winter I was intrigued by this spirited mare. She would always come to greet me at the gate. Finn is healing and getting some time off. I really enjoyed Shelly’s energy today…just what I needed.
