Brown-eyed gentle horse

Stands confident, guards Times Square

Officer sits proud.

Art Prescription:  These horses amaze me. Amid the millions of people, honking horns and sirens, they stand calm and sure. Just beautiful. Not surprising that they themselves land in the photos of tourist from all over the world. Guess brown eyes speak a universal language!

Haiku May 19, 2012 City

Backyard birds, pigeons.

A flock lined-up over noise

Traffic, honk, siren.

Art Prescription:  I’m just not a city girl. I miss my quiet backyard with my garden and studio. And I’m perfectly okay with that!! You cannot fit a square peg into a round hole, and you shouldn’t try. My booth is set! Looks peaceful, airy, and romantic. Makes me happy to see this! Show starts tomorrow. My mantra: “be true to yourself.”

Haiku May 2, 2012 Pillows

Soft, fluffy, pillows

For sleep, for naps, luxury

Satiny, smooth, rest!

Art Prescription:  While tending to my feline pride today, my new watercolor fabric arrived! Perfect day to sew pillows. The fabric looks great and my sewing will-do. Good to learn something new. With each new project I appreciate my 7th grade math teacher Mr. Scott.

Haiku April 29, 2012 Hope

Anticipation

Momentum that carries you

Hope, dreams, to do list!

Art Prescription:  Wonderful feedback this weekend at the Durham Art Walk on my newest Bird Song Collection! People made a bee-line to these new fun mixed-media pieces. Good for me because I love doing them. Hopes, dreams, and creativity are at the core of my life…I am very fortunate to have the loving support of my husband!

Haiku April 22, 2012 Earth Day

Yoga in the rain

Birds serenade while grass grows

Sunday, time to play.

Art Prescription:  Finally a day to just play with paint! My studio is clean and ready for a show, which gives me hours to explore mixed media. I’ve been interested in graffiti-like effects lately. Playing with acrylics and spray paint. Tapped into my 16 year old self today with this mixed-media work. What do you remember from being 16?

Bee lands on petals

Sips nectar while picking up

Tiny grains, pollen.

Art Prescription:  I started my day out at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens. Took my backpack filled with supplies for outdoor sketching. There is so much in bloom, hard to choose a subject. I settled on a patch of Wild Geranium and also did a pen and ink of Ginko. When you sit in a garden for a period of time flowers bloom before your very eyes!

Smell of soap lingers

After you’ve left for your job

Studio awaits.

Art Prescription:  After Sam has been home for a weekend I’m always sad to see him return to his long days at work. He leaves, and I must get focused on my art. Today I am working on a new house portrait commission. After 20 + years of marriage I still don’t like parting.

“l’amore che move il sole e l’altre stelle…”

“The love that moves the sun and the other stars.”

Mulch is like a frame

Greens, flowers, pop with color!

Ibuprofen now!!

Art Prescription:  Sam and I spread about 12 cubic yards of mulch in our neighbor’s yard and ours. We all worked as a team. Rewarding job, as the gardens look beautiful. Taking a break from painting art to create a garden to inspire my muse!!

She softly chortles

He lands confident above

A brand new nest waits.

Art Prescription: It’s so delightful to observe birds in spring. My new blue bird box has interested chickadees and blue birds. I’m not sure who will end up with the property. I’m teaching an Art Prescription workshop tomorrow. We will be working with collage and expressive painting. Paint, drip, spatter, cut, glue, write….anything goes!!

Black and white swift flight

Chickadee moves in new box

Meant for the blue bird.

Art Prescription: After installing my brand new blue bird box, I’ve been patiently observing to see if there is an interest for a new nest. Next thing I know, I see a chickadee zooming back and forth! She has probably claimed the new house. You have to watch to see!!
