Index card art for two months

Daily challenges!

Art Prescription:  So ICAD 2016 starts tomorrow. Most days through June and July I will be working from prompts from Daisy Yellow http://daisyyellowart.com/vividlife/icad-2016-prompts-week-1

I did this last year and it’s such a fun way to create everyday. As you all know I create on index cards all through the year. They lend themselves to all kinds of media.

Butterfly Delight May 24, 2016

In the cool spring mud

A Mourning Cloak Butterfly

Feeds on minerals.

Art Prescription:  For those of you who follow my blog you will remember the gem I found while walking at Mason Farm. It’s a Mourning Cloak Butterfly. They use their probiscus to feed on the minerals found in mud. This is why you often see a bunch of butterflies on a puddle.

Lunch at the Umstead Hotel

Afternoon at farm.

Art Prescription:  Freshly showered, makeup-check, and gussied up, I met two friends for lunch at the Umstead Hotel, an upscale hotel and spa close to home. I had the fried green tomato BLT and fried okra appetizer, yes we are in the south. From there I drove straight to the farm to meet the farrier, who was the beneficiary of my other half of BLT. He was thankful. I then swung by my art-groups art show for the 2nd Friday Art-walk. Wow! Proud of my group!

Clean-Up Crew May 7, 2016

Road-side clean up crew

Beauty comes in many ways

The turkey vulture.

Art Prescription:  As I drove about country roads this morning, I encountered several instances where turkey vultures were having their breakfast. Now I know this is when most go oooooooohhhhh! But perhaps we need to have more respect for these street cleaners. I didn’t paint one because I do not have a great photo reference, but next time you see some big wings circling high above give credit to the vultures of our world.

Spring! May 6, 2016

Hey, wake up it’s spring

Fast, furious thunder-storms

Birds bathe in run-off.

Art Prescription:  Caught in a down-pour today, home wet. And thankful for natures reassuring rhythms.

Warbler March 5, 2016

Yellow Pine Warbler

Sings in tree tops, evasive

Suddenly appears!

Art Prescription:  I’ve been trying to see a Pine Warbler for a while now with my binoculars. “Hunting” the woods, listening for their song, and scanning the tree-tops for a view. Then today there they were, a pair, right in full view. And yes they are cute as can be.

Found Poetry February 6, 2016

Warm and inviting

Knowing that this is my place,

What I’ve created.

Art Prescription:  Spent most of my day at the farm riding Finn. Went with found poetry for my haiku and art…a little random print from a magazine. Try it! Just open up to any page and see what words jump out at you.

Tropical Flower November 9, 2015

Smell of a wood-fire

Rain soaked leaves land in puddles

Umbrella in hand.

Art Prescription:  Okay so the weather doesn’t usually get me down…but I’m so sick of rain I could scream!!! Okay there! So I picked out a stamp with some lovely pink flowers for today’s Art Prescription. Because like me you might could use a little tropical inspiration.
