Pool, not a ripple
Acorns scatter the cool ground
Gold-dust in the fields
Art Prescription: Fall seems to have moved in and I’m delighted!

Art Journal w feathers and watercolor:
Dried flowers on stem
Hint, original color
Calm winter neutrals.
Art Prescription: It was 22 degrees when I got to the farm this morning. Finn was happily eating hay, which is how horses keep warm in low temperatures. I had lots of layers and was comfortable, enjoying the bright winter sun. Later at home, I went for my usual walk and picked up a few beautiful things.
Just sit and listen
And you will hear the world move
Forward with spirit.
Art Prescription: Sketching in backyard:
A light snow dusting
Frosted wildflowers, spring trees
With a white layer.
Art Prescription: A morning snow put spring on hold, but by afternoon the birds were moving on to their business.
Index card with watercolor and my chop “hope.”
In Lady Banks Rose
A pair of wrens seek courtship
Among early buds.
Art Prescription: If they choose to nest here, soon their home will be snuggled among abundant yellow Lady Banks Roses.

Leaves shiver in breeze
Cool, grey, wintry, cloudy, sky
Fluffy birds huddle.
Art Prescription: I can’t think of a better way to end the year than a nature walk with my sketchbook and my love. Just us and our footsteps together for a 25th New Years Eve. Our lives are blessed and happy, and my wish for everyone is to find the simple beauty of each and every day. Oh yea, and make some art! Here’s to 2017!
Sketchbook with pen and graphite:
Number two pencil
A notebook ready to fill
With observation.
Art Prescription: Thank you Jane, https://www.facebook.com/jane.eckenrode, for a lovely class today at the North Carolina Botanical Garden on keeping a nature journal. My regular blog readers know I’m a total bird geek, and learning how to observe and draw birds in their natural habitat is a skill I aspire to.
I’m excited to go out into the field, or to my back-yard feeder, and practice.
Art journal with #2 pencil:
Perfect design, flight
The ability to soar
Over great expanse.
Art Prescription: Ever look up at a bird soaring on wind currents and wonder what that would be like? Just drifting along at a pace designed by nature. The here and now…
Watercolor and Colored Pencil 8 1/2 x 11
A paper bird’s nest
Nature journal style study
Tear, glue, draw, and paint.
Art Prescription: So fun to work spontaneously with my art buddies! As we talked, our hands moved and art was made.
8 x 8 mixed-media on paper
A huddle of leaves
A January still life
Together we fall.
Art Prescription: Perfect temperature for a nature walk. Lots of birds singing, robins, nuthatches, cedar waxwings, chickadees, cardinals. I was looking to see what might be coming out of the ground, but instead found this bunch of leaves an interesting subject.
