Bike wheels round and round

White wildflowers line the trail

Blackberry cobbler!

Art Prescription:  We rode bikes on the American Tobacco Trail today. What was once a busy rail line to Durham, NC (at one point about 25 passenger trains came in a day), is now a meandering paved bike trail that leads to downtown. The ride takes you through kudzu infested woods, along newer and older sections of housing, and lands you right smack in the middle of the Durham Bulls Ballpark, restaurants, etc. We continued our ride to check out my friends art installation parasolb.com  What a wonderful day filled with lots of scenery and surprises!!  It’s good to wander! Oh, and the white wildflowers are blackberries!

Bee lands on petals

Sips nectar while picking up

Tiny grains, pollen.

Art Prescription:  I started my day out at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens. Took my backpack filled with supplies for outdoor sketching. There is so much in bloom, hard to choose a subject. I settled on a patch of Wild Geranium and also did a pen and ink of Ginko. When you sit in a garden for a period of time flowers bloom before your very eyes!

Vulture stands pole top

Peers out on intersection

Human cars speed by.

Art Prescription: On the way to work this morning I saw a lone vulture preening calmly on top of a telephone pole. As I sat waiting for the green light, her calm stature captured my attention.  Cars were flooding in every direction in a hurry. There were five wires leading to her stand, an interesting composition. Always be on the look-out for something out of the ordinary to move you.

Sun dances on floor

Yoga bends mind and body

Ah shavasana.

Art Prescription:  I like quiet places and calm people. When I step outside my comfort zone I suffer. It’s taken me a lot of years to figure this out. I’m a creature of habit.  Do you know what your comfort zone is?

Daisies are daisies

And Dandelions are “weeds”

Both yellow flowers.

Art Prescription:  So how does one become a noble flower versus a mere weed? It’s all about how you are labeled. And usually how labels occur is by a precedence set for others to judge. Most spiritual leaders throughout history did not spend their time judging others, rather they spent their time helping others. When the sun goes down it is our own conscious we bed. It is sometimes hard being human…negative thoughts can grow like weeds, leaving little room for the flowers. Grow the garden you want to see in your mind!

Mulch is like a frame

Greens, flowers, pop with color!

Ibuprofen now!!

Art Prescription:  Sam and I spread about 12 cubic yards of mulch in our neighbor’s yard and ours. We all worked as a team. Rewarding job, as the gardens look beautiful. Taking a break from painting art to create a garden to inspire my muse!!

Industriousness

Some have it others do not

Why spend life idle?

Art Prescription:  Today is my grandmother’s birthday. She was one of the most industrious people I’ve ever known. She lived alone and made her life complete and content by gardening, quilting, canning, cooking, sewing, reading… I feel very sorry for people who can’t find their way in the world with purpose and energy. We have this one precious life to live each day to its fullest!! I’m extremely thankful I married an industrious man…made my grandma proud!! Happy Birthday Annie! Miss you!

Dark, rich, earthy mulch

Seven cubic yards piled high

Time in the garden!!

Art Prescription:  Worked my nursing job today and then came home to get dirt under my finger-nails in the garden. Besides doing art, nothing makes me happier than the fruitful labor of gardening. Plant flowers that inspire the muse!
