Haiku March 31, 2013 Trout-lily

If Trout-lilys played

A musical instrument.

They’d be violins.

Art Prescription:  One of the main reasons I like sketching live is to feel the personality of a plant. As a certified botanical illustrator, we were taught to tell the plant’s story. Get your sketchbook and go out and draw…think you can’t draw? Just let your hand follow your eye. Get your brain, and what you think you see out of the way….just follow the contours of the subject.

Haiku March 24, 2013 Rain Hike

Rainy day nature

Sharp wind blows umbrella up!

Peaceful, creek babbles.

Art Prescription:  Even on a grey, windy, rainy, cold, day, I need to get out and convene with nature! Nature walking in the rain is actually quiet soothing. Droplets pitter-patter your umbrella, everything smells fresh, and the sounds of water running downstream is musical.

Haiku March 21, 2013 Gentleness

Gentleness of spring

Warmth and care like summer breeze

Share it with people.

Art Prescription:  A day at my nursing job always reminds me of how much I have to be thankful for! Knowing there are many things I cannot change, my hope is to deliver a moment of kindness and warmth. What do you want to be remembered for? What brings you pride and serenity?

Haiku March 20, 2013 Huntress Owl

A night-time huntress.

A riot of wildflowers.

The owl glides silent.

Art Prescription:  The magical unexpected sighting of an owl on my morning walk stayed with me all day. Usually nocturnal, this time of year owls are doing a bit of extra hunting for their brood. Owls have long been thought of as a symbol for wisdom. The Native American practice of Animal Medicine says Owl may be asking you to go deep within and know your own truths.
