Haiku October 15, 2012 Life Cycle

Like swing ride at fair

Cosmo seed globes burst outward

Wait for wind to bed.

Art Prescription:  My Cosmos are still blooming! So on one plant I have at least four stages of their life cycle:  bud, flower, fertilize, seed! The seed globes are mini sculptures, delicate, and highly designed! Nature is a master architect!

Haiku October 14, 2012 Walk at Mason Farm

Last fall flowers bloom

Seed pods stand over meadow

Release fancy wings.

Art Prescription:  We walked our favorite place, Mason Farm. Seems just a week or so ago the open meadows were filled with yellow Partridge Peas and pink wild roses. Now a few asters remain and interesting seed pods take the place of flowers. A sea of golden rod, yellow grasses and a hint of reds now stretches out against the wooded backdrop. We did see a pretty striped snake along the trail. Mason Farm is a beautiful nature preserve with a few different habitats. Lots of birds, owls, foxes, coyote, to name a few! A great place for a nature sketcher!

Haiku October 9, 2012 Migration

Symphony in trees

Silver streaks of black birds fly

South for the winter!

Art Prescription:  If you wake to a cacophony of birds in the trees, it’s likely flocks and flocks of black birds making their way south for winter. They are so noisy! And then one flap of the wing sends the whole bunch of them off to follow the pack. Nature’s rhythm amazes me! How at just the right time flora and fauna know their job…no questioning or laboring like us humans…should of, could of, would of, what if…

Haiku October 8, 2012 Money

Love is currency

Thai soup, home-made bread, laundry!

Account status: Full!

Art Prescription:  In life there are many hours we simply cannot bill for. The major categories are house-work, yard-work, food gathering and preparing, and for mom’s with kids this list is infinity. The pay is love. Creativity comes in many forms!! What a luxury to be able to spend a day adding to life’s account with hand and heart!

Haiku October 4, 2012 The Ego

Is it real or fluff?

Cotton- ball clouds full of steam

Sunset pulls from sky.

Art Prescription: How much of what people tell you is their ego building up fluff? Humans…such an odd bunch. All trying to reach some imaginary high! Ever cloud watch? Imagine what you see? We all want to see what we want to see. The reality our life has led us to. Are you living real or are you living fluff? The same sun and moon hang in all our skies. Peace-out!

Haiku October 3, 2012 No Kissing Allowed

No kissing allowed

He leaves, I feel forgotten

Colds are not sexy!!!!!

Art Prescription:  I’m writing with a box of tissue on hand. Do you remember your first kiss? A simple cold would not keep me from attempting to share my germs with my 7th grade boyfriend. All things change. After 21 years of marriage, here I am almost 2 1/5 weeks in the guest room. The first week was me trying to not get my beloved’s cold. The next week,  allowing him to sleep without waking to my persistent cough. Ain’t marriage grand!! Can I get a kiss hello? A hug?

Haiku October 1, 2012 Great Grandmother’s Quilt

Great Grandmother’s quilt

Offers warmth as degrees drop

Stitch by stitch with love.

Art Prescription:  We are so lucky to have about five quilts made by my ancestors. Both my mom’s mother and my dad’s parents quilted, and this is back in the day where it was all done by hand! I remember my grandmother’s living room being transformed into a quilting bee as the furniture was moved back, the  quilt racks went up, and she and my aunt would sit and sew for hours. Today I did a watercolor sketch of a section of quilt just for fun.  Look around your house to find inspiration!
