Girl with the Yellow Umbrella August 17, 2015

Fabric from Paris

She flows with tide, girl with the

Yellow umbrella

Art Prescription:  Girl on the beach take 3…or I lost count. Not satisfied with the final watercolor, again my colors muddy. So I paper collaged with torn pieces from other not so great watercolors. I kind of like the mixed media end product. A good example of how no work is ever wasted. I save every piece that should be filed in the trash. And weeks or months later I see that piece has the perfect color I need for a collage…let her rip!!

Leaf September 29, 2014

The veins of a leaf

Transport sugar and water

Branches, pathways, life.

Art Prescription:  The veins of leaves and branches on trees mimic our vascular and nervous system. Gives you something to think about. Colored pencil, pen and ink, and collage on an A2 envelope.

Out beyond the gate

I find my breath, deep and full

On a white mare’s back.

Art Prescription:  Rode Lacey today! Some ring work…my trot a little better…and then off into the woods and corn-fields. Lean forward going up-hill and lean back going down hill. I try to let her rhythm carry my body. Trust, let go and breathe. Folks this is big.

Metal works for the garden!

Hummer with fork wings!

Art Prescription:  Chapel Hill and Carrboro North Carolina are rich with talented artists! It’s always fun to see art done in a completely different medium! We bought several pieces for our garden and for gifts!

Recycled papers

Cut out like paper-dolls, make

A junk mail garden!

Art Prescription:  Here’s a mate for my last “junk mail garden” piece. A fun way to recycle, cut your junk mail up into shapes and paste onto a surface. I’m using watercolor here. Paint and highlight your cut flowers, and draw some stems and leaves, and now you have a garden.
