Guests on Earth January 11, 2014

Wild horses couldn’t

Drag me away from my world

We are all guests here.

Art Prescription:  Sadly another dear furry friend left us, Lily. Peace be with her family.

My husband Sam, also wrote a haiku. These two cats were part of our lives and will be missed.

Ship sets sail and fades
Toward horizon, lost from view
Arrived to new plane

Loss and Love October 1, 2013

Grief, like the ocean

Ripples or waves, knocks you down

River, salty tears.

Art Prescription:  A sad day for me as a good feline friend left this world to another. She was a delight and my heart is a little broken. I pray for healing and recovery for her family.

Hearts a bursting September 15, 2013

Pink sneakers, white hat

Walk my path as sun settles

My Hearts-a-bustin.

Art Prescription:  Euonymus americanus – Bursting Heart, Hearts-a-bustin’, Strawberry Bush.. E. americanus is a shrub with thin stems and opposing, shallowly serrated leaves. The bush grows from 4 to 6 feet tall. Fruit is a red 4-lobed capsule. Each lobe splits open in the autumn, giving the name Bursting Heart.

There are many days that we may feel our hearts are bursting, with joy, with praise, and with sorrow.

Pregnant with Possibility August 26, 2013

He holds her steady

She carries eight months in front

Soon will be strolling!

Art Prescription:  Ah, the life cycle…went to the North Carolina Botanical Gardens today to sketch. This time of year the flowers are starting to go to seed, preparation for a new spring, new plants. The shapes and textures of pods are interesting. At some point I shall do a study of pods. For now the flowers are still in bloom, and the butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds are abundant…heaven.

Haiku July 9, 2013 Loneliness

Loneliness is not

Being only flower bud

But failure to bloom.

Art Prescription:  The garden is ripe with buds and blooms and it occurs to me that to make a garden whole it takes many elements. The rain, the sun, the soil, birds, bees, and the instinctual element of life growing on despite any adversary. A tree fallen by a storm, will only grow upward with new branches. We humans get so attached to this one short life we live. If you relish in nature’s messages, you will be at peace with the whole. Four winds, Bev
