Haiku October 14, 2012 Walk at Mason Farm

Last fall flowers bloom

Seed pods stand over meadow

Release fancy wings.

Art Prescription:  We walked our favorite place, Mason Farm. Seems just a week or so ago the open meadows were filled with yellow Partridge Peas and pink wild roses. Now a few asters remain and interesting seed pods take the place of flowers. A sea of golden rod, yellow grasses and a hint of reds now stretches out against the wooded backdrop. We did see a pretty striped snake along the trail. Mason Farm is a beautiful nature preserve with a few different habitats. Lots of birds, owls, foxes, coyote, to name a few! A great place for a nature sketcher!

Fragile skeleton

A dried form of brown beauty

Stands tall in meadows.

Art Prescription:  As much as I love spring, I love fall. The dried foliage to me is not dead, but graceful forms of intricate detail. This is the season to find much adored seed pods of all kinds. For every flower there is a seed, and nature’s designs awe and inspire me. Recently I’ve been noticing dried Queen Anne’s Lace along roadsides and meadows. These seeds will be next year’s crop.

White fluffy seeds float

Spread by the wind they flourish

Snow-like in April.

Art Prescription:  At one point today the air was filled with seed pods being blown about by the wind to find a place to plant and grow. Nature has several ways to spread seed, by wind, by bird, by insect. Being efficient is something I strive for everyday!
