Christmas Past December 24, 2013

Same stars light the sky

For some it’s the last, some first

Christmas past, present.

Art Prescription:  Time is marked by events like Christmas Eve. As I gaze out at the big wide open sky, I think. These same stars were shining on my first Christmas Eve, and will shine on past my last. Humbling…Be true to yourself. Live in the present and seek joy everyday. Merry Christmas!silky white ornament

Haiku December 27, 2012 December Moon

Stars twinkle clear sky

Lovely ring circles full moon

Light for longest nights!

Art Prescription:  Evening walks take on new meanings in winter. Instead of watching the sun set, I get to watch the moon rise. Tonight the moon is full…called by Native Americans the “Full Cold Moon,” or the “Full Long Nights Moon.” This time of year temperatures dive, 20’s expected here in North Carolina. Since it’s hard to capture the beauty of a moon lit sky with a camera (unless you are a pro), I encourage you to sketch and/or paint this magical winter scene!

The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon – December During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun.
