Haiku September 26, 2012 Time

Time marches forward

Like a lion free from cage

And never looks back!

Art Prescription:  Ever wonder what life was like before clocks or calendars? Humans lived a long time by the sun, moon, and stars…sounds peaceful doesn’t it? Now we have a gazillion gadgets that constantly remind us we are racing with time. Facebook has made us a constant observer and publisher of our own lives and a voyeur of others. (disclaimer – I like Facebook) Tomorrow is Thursday and time for me to leave my studio for my nursing job. My goal for this week was to get my new “Mandala Blue” collection out to a table-top company! and I did! A word on persistence by Lebanese poet Hoda al-Namai:

I have not withdrawn into despair,

I did not go mad in gathering honey,

I did not go mad,

I did not go mad,

I did not go mad.

Haiku September 21, 2012 Goals

Determination

Rain, stream, creek, river, ocean

Movement towards the whole.

Art Prescription:  What gives people will? Why are some people driven? Or better stated what drives people’s behavior? It’s difficult not to judge others based on our opinion which rises out of our own life learned perspective. For me personally, I do hope I can always consider another person’s point of view, be a good listener, and simply try to show kindness. One drop of water flows endlessly to where is belongs…moves along with the flow of life.

Haiku September 19, 2012 Haiku-o-gram

Dangles from a tree

A poem for someone to find

It’s haiku-o-gram!!

Art Prescription:  My haiku-a-day is branching out. Today I hung Haiku-o-gram 2, since 1 launched. This project is all about delight! and I’m writing haikus on recycled pieces of art. My intention is to purely surprise and brighten someone’s day. A little gift  flapping in the wind!! It’s fun to do something unexpected!!

Haiku September 18, 2012 Inertia

Heavy grey clouds roll

Rain pours down in side-ways sheets

An afternoon walk!

Art Prescription:  On grey stormy days like today, one has to fight the power of inertia. AKA the couch and a warm cat pulling you down….noooooooooo. I will resist! I have work to do! Okay, just for a moment. Dang an hour later I rub my eyes and look outside. Still pouring. Off to walk I go! Inertia, especially as fall begins her hypnotic effect, is a powerful force. I ended up with wet feet, wet pants, and a lot of fun!! It’s all up to the mind.

Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion or rest, or the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion.

Haiku September 16, 2012 Open Windows

Open window breeze

Brushes sleepy morning face

September fresh air!

Art Prescription: Woke to a light rain and cool temperatures. After I loaded the coffee and hit on, I opened the windows and inhaled deeply. Ahhhh!! Fresh, clean air! Fall is a season loaded with emotion. I find it beautiful and look forward to the crisp change. There is also a sense of melancholy that summer is over. “For everything there is a season.”

Haiku September 15, 2012 Meditation

Sauna heat rises

I begin meditation

Some guy smacks on gum!

Art Prescription:  Sometimes it’s hard to tune others out. As I sat there though, eventually the popping and clicking faded away as I tried to focus on my breath. Working on several different mock-ups for a new collection…have not named it yet…what would you call it? Here is the pillow!
