Haiku May 27, 2013 Object Desire

Things lost and then found

One’s trash, another’s treasure

Objects of desire.

Art Prescription:  Two scenarios here. One, my hand-painted stool will be found tomorrow in an assortment of boxes at Goodwill, or two, some child is laughing at their new silly cat and mouse stool! Why do we humans get so attached to inanimate objects? My husband who is a get things done kind-of-guy, most of the time an excellent trait, inadvertently took my beloved field-sketching stool to the Goodwill. I’m wrangling with thoughts of a child loving their new object, and mourning the loss of MY STOOL! MINE! Okay, so this is where my years of yoga and practicing letting go might really come in handy, MINE! Sometimes all the practice in the world doesn’t equate to our humanly notions of hanging on, letting things define our life, getting stuck and not moving on, learning to share…

Haiku September 5, 2012 Meditate

Meditate or nap

Stretch, Hatha or Flow Yoga

All up to the mind.

Art Prescription:  I haven’t slept well in about three nights and it occurs to me that it’s either hormonal or a busy mind. So, off to yoga I go today to set a big intention of calming my nervous system so I can slumber…hope it works! Course it did not help that my husband’s phone alerting him to a new text message went off at 2:00 a.m.!! 2:00 a.m.!! Curse!! Back to my mantra, “All is well…All is well…and all that is, is well.”

Haiku July 21, 2012 Crow Caws

Crow caws chant, still air

Late warm  sun casts long shadows

Sweat rolls down my face.

Art Prescription:  Sometimes it’s interesting to just walk and listen. What’s the most distant sound you hear? Walking can be a meditation…step after step…being in the moment with what’s going on around you.

Haiku July 13, 2012 Sexy Body

Run like a gazelle

Swim like a dolphin, movement

Honor your body.

Art Prescription:  Okay so I don’t run like a gazelle. I am a swimmer and it is my brain boosting drug of choice. Swimming to me is like meditation. I get into a rhythm and my mind can wander freely. Feeling weightless in the water perhaps is primordial. We are all built differently – is there a sport you identify with – dancing, fencing, walking, hiking, biking, tennis, golf…Main thing is to care for your sexy body!! Cheers!

Purr, sound of a cat

Pink padded paws make biscuits

My belly the dough!

Art Prescription:  One of the delightful perks of working from home is to be able to take mini-breaks in order to get a massage. My cats love nothing better than when I put my legs up a wall for a restorative yoga pose and they can hop up and knead my head, belly, back… We call it a “company break.” It’s important to take breaks!! You will go back to your work refueled.
