Owl visit

On my evening walk yesterday I was listening to the birds as usual. Around a certain bend in the path I noticed some more insistent squawking, saw a squirrel sitting on a branch, and thought he must be too close to someone’s nest. On my way back I saw what I thought to be a hawk take off through the trees. Oh, that’s what the chatter was all about.

Sneaking up to get a closer view I was thrilled to find a beautiful barred owl perched in a pine. She seemed unafraid of my presence while staring right at me. I quickly called my neighbor Jane Schroeder, a fantastic photographer, to jump in her car and come.

The owl visited with us and Jane took magical pictures. We both feel we were given a special gift from nature.
Whenever I have a special encounter with nature I turn to my Animal Medicine book (by Jamie Sams & David Carson) to explore meaning.

Owls are sacred medicine birds and are associated with clairvoyance, astral projection, and magic. Their flight is silent and they are powerful hunters. Traditionally Owl sits to the East, a place of illumination and wisdom. Owl sees what others cannot, the essence of truth. Owl medicine people are said to know more about people’s inner lives than they know about themselves.

An Owl visit may be asking us to use our powers of keen, silent observation, and intuition about a life situation. Owl befriends and aids one in seeing the total truth and can bring you messages at night through dreams.

Owl Visit

Perched enlightenment

Silent, keen, brown, wise eyes stare

In awe I look back.

Thank you Mother Nature.

Thank you Jane.

Art Prescription: Pay attention, you may have a visitor!
