I had to turn the air condition on in my studio today. I’ve held off as long as I could. But today hit around 90 degrees, which means my studio is probably about 100.

Surtex is 3 weeks away and my excitement is mixed with a healthy dose of anxiety. Also this time of year there is so much to be inspired by it’s intoxicating. Flowers and trees are busting out in full glory now, pollen, fragrance, and color all intelligently designed to promote the birds and the bees. Nature sure seems to have her structure in order.

Drawing from my window, I sketched the beautiful and elegant bends and shapes of my clematis vine. I decided to paint a monochromatic design in order to focus on broader forms versus details.
