Today I went to a workshop at Moonbird Soulful Living. We learned Shiboro, an ancient method of dying fabrics with indigo.
The process is quite interesting as you have to de-oxygenate the vat to make the indigo effective. Your pieces comes out green, but as the fabric is exposed to air, and oxidizes, it the turns brilliant indigo blue!
There are lots of ways to create resists with objects and tying, similar to tie-dye. You can also use bees wax to paint a resist right on your fabric.
I did two tea towels and a long-sleeved T-shirt. This was great fun! I can see exploring this medium more!

Percent of cotton
A garden with pink roses
Saying, “I love you.”
Art Prescription: What brings you joy? Do you seek it out often?
Watercolor:

Not too late to bloom
Go ahead and reap one more
Chance to use your skills.
Art Prescription: I went in to help with my RN job today. How nice to be needed and welcome!
Watercolor sketch:

And sometimes it takes
Years for a creature to trust
To feel safe with touch.
Art Prescription: This kitty has been a stray in my neighborhood for years. Tonight he let me approach him and stroke his fur. He even purred!

Nesting season done
Blue bird box sits quiet now
Garden goes to sleep.
Art Prescription: As happy as I am for cooler days, I’ll miss my active garden. The blue birds come to the feeder, so maybe they will stay around for next spring.
Watercolor:

Early fall still warm
Long shadows reach across field
As birds begin roost.
Art Prescription: The light at 5 o’clock is waning. Last lesson with the horses, they are yawning, knowing it’s time to go out to pasture.
Abstract index card:

All along the fence
Birds dip and dive for fresh bugs
Early morning farm.
Art Prescription: watercolor pencil and pen and ink:

Fall along the trail
Baby squirrels romp and gather
Butterflies puddle.
Art Prescription: Sam and I took off to walk Mason Farm, but not far into the woods swarms of mosquitos were like a plume of smoke. We left there for higher grounds!
Pen and ink sketches with a light watercolor wash.

Water reflection
Echoes of fall in stillness
A very likeness.
Art Prescription: Reflections can be truthful. What do we see when we look in the mirror?
