Haiku May 13, 2012 Mother’s Day

Nature makes babies

Nurture and love makes mothers

Hug, kiss, encourage.

Art Prescription: The hardest and most rewarding job on earth must be parenthood. I did a meet and greet at A Southern Season today and met beaming parents, proud of their graduates! A mother’s love carries us through thick and thin. Mothers are there to make our world safe and build us into the people we might become! On this day they get to have breakfast in bed,  get pampered with gifts, put up on the queen’s seat!! Tomorrow she will return to snotty noses, carpooling, ballet practice, dinner, her work,  and refilling the toilet paper, but right now!! she reigns! Long live the Queen!

Haiku May 12, 2012 Stray

Stray, wander, digress

Sidetracked, off balance, sojourn

Find your way back home.

Art Prescription:  I’m still trying to find out who owns the sweet black and white kitty who has taken up residence on my street. You cannot come or go from my neighborhood without seeing a sign announcing FOUND CAT! It seems the busier life gets, the more challenges come your way. Hope the owner calls me…if not will make the next decision. By the way, she is sweet!! and oh dear, I’m thinking of names….

Haiku May 11, 2012 Grass

Freshly cut green grass

Herbaceous, glistens in sun

Reap the seeds you sow.

Art Prescription:  I love to mow. It’s a Zen activity which is very rewarding. And as I’m rounding my flower gardens I notice what’s in bloom now. New perennials planted from botanical garden are doing their thing. Patience is a virtue when it comes to planting. As in life, the effort and planning you put into your future pays off down the road!!  Sow seeds of hope and gratitude…now water!

Haiku May 10, 2012 Time

Mysterious time

Too much time, too many thoughts

Not enough, stressful.

Art Prescription:  Everyone has experienced times in life where the clock seems to stretch out for hours.  And other days time is gone in minutes. Time is a human encounter. It’s as much about physical as psychological. How you spend your thoughts often manifest in how you spend your day. If thoughts were money, how would you spend them. Would you buy something positive? Or allow your money to go down a drain? Every morning, regardless of how sleepy and “tired” you feel, you need to tell yourself: This is going to be a GREAT DAY! Now make it happen!

Haiku May 9, 2012 Rain, rain

Wind, rain, and thunder

Booms its way into May day

Thirsty plants say ah!

Art Prescription: A rainy stormy day can keep you inside, but only a while. Then the lush green grass and thankful blooming garden will greet you with vavoom! Good day to do inside work, give a little extra attention to your pets,…and paint your toenails! Yes, this is a necessary, sandal and flip-flop season is here. And I need to access my wardrobe and shoe situation for Surtex, New York! Never let a little wind get in your way, it will huff on by.

Haiku May 8, 2012 Snakes

Black shiny snake glides

Tis the season for reptiles

Shed old habits, change.

Art Prescription:  The incidence of snake appearances is on the rise, just like the temperature. Too bad these wiggly creatures spook most of us. They really don’t mean any harm, especially black snakes. In fact Hermes, the father of alchemy, used two snakes intertwined around a sword as a symbol to represent healing. I spent some lovely time at the UNC Botanical Garden today teaching Montessori students what a nature journal is all about. They were engaged and interested! Little minds learning to enjoy and respect nature!

Haiku May 7, 2012 Stray

Black and white kitty

Where do you live pretty cat?

Friendly meow-er.

Art Prescription:  Oh dear for the 5th day in a row there is a black and white cat wandering around my street. I, of course, gave it food and water and some attention. By today I am highly suspicious she is a stray. Put signs up around neighborhood and rode my bike around to ask, “do you know this cat?” Why would the universe send me a stray cat right now with Surtex, New York coming immediately? There is always time to love…

Haiku May 6, 2012 Tree Frog

Little green tree frog

Iridescent shine, black eyes

Sticky feet, jumper.

Art Prescription:  A weekend for reptiles! Saw two black snakes…they are good. And at the end of my day today the cutest little green tree frog hopped into my studio. Hello fella! Directed him outside where the evening catch is. Surtex is about 2 weeks away and I’m feeling a little wound tight. Good to have nature hop into my journey to remind me that it’s all about joy!

Haiku May 5, 2012

Determination

Blue-eyed grass rises in woods

Reaching for the sun.

Art Prescription:  Sisyrinchium angustifolium, or Blue-eyed Grass are happy little blooms that greet you along wooded trails. They are bluish-purple and just say “Hi.” If you are in a hurry, you may not notice them, so slow down and look at what’s blooming at your feet!

Haiku May 4, 2012 Squirrely

Squirrel  from the start

Bushy tail twitches, eyes watch

Nature or nurture?

Art Prescription:  A baby squirrel crossed my path today. Little rat with a tail. And yet all the squirrel-like mannerisms were apparent. Did he/she learn this from a parent or is it just DNA? Either way she knew just what to do…swish her little tail and bolt up a tree with athletic finesse. Some things we are born with and some things we learn along the way. Either way it’s all about survival. Honor your senses!
