Visionary bulbs
Hyacinths, crocus, tulips
Spring dreams sown in fall.
Art Prescription: Reap what you sow!
Soaring, floating high
On air currents glide winged friends
Above my safe home.
Art Prescription: I’m working on a house portrait for a gift. Our dear neighbors are moving. Painting their house is bittersweet…we will miss them dearly. They are moving to be with their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild! Life coming full circle. With each stroke of my paint brush I bid them well. Art is a great way to work through life changes.
Neighbors, neighborhoods
People and place that nourish
Children play outside.
Art Prescription: It’s Saturday and lawn-mowers are starting to buzz. Folks are getting out, and the sound of children playing fills the air. We live in a wonderful neighborhood. Serendipity put us here…a place to make friends.
Twigs, leaves, moss, lichens
Woven with plans for future.
This a bird’s nest makes.
Art Prescription: Birds are industrious! If you have a chance to look closely at a nest, you will see planning and construction. It’s very interesting to see materials birds choose, sometimes string or netting, a soft cozy place for eggs and then fledglings. A bird’s nest is a beautiful work of art!
All moments before
Exactly right now shaped you
Formed your perspective.
Art Prescription: Where do you belong? Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Do you belong on a busy city street or in a quiet wildflower meadow? Do you honor your true self? Take a piece of art you are not happy with and paint over the whole thing…now create something new!
Sometimes the mind needs
Stillness like the air in church
Hot Sunday morning.
Art Prescription: Ever have days where your mind just needs some space to wander? What do you do on those days to still feel productive? I walk and sketch. Went over in the woods to sketch wildflowers. Met someone on the way back walking his dog. He asked me what I found. I showed him some wildflowers, and he said he’d never noticed them. He commented on the fact that you really have to look to notice…
Dainty delicate
High pitched song Cedar Waxwings
Flock merry bandits.
Art Prescription: Most of the time I hear them before I see them, Cedar Waxwings. They have a very distinctive sound and are always found together in a flock. Spring is a perfect time to tune into the awesome songs of birds. It’s fun to listen and then look. I am so pleased to share guest photographer Jane Schroeder’s capture of a beautiful Cedar Waxwing.
Satin Trout Lily’s
Nod their dainty heads up out
Of winter’s brown dirt.
Art Prescription: Went on a long walk today, even though chilly and windy, over to the botanical gardens. One of the first ephemeral wildflowers to bloom are the Trout Lily’s. They are so cheerful and quiet, but bold. They come up and shine when winter winds are still chilling. Rise up…be bold!
