Valentine roses

Faded while impatient March

Threatens to blow in.

Art Prescription: Each spring as cold and warm air meet here in North Carolina we have thunderstorms and high winds. I worry about the birds and the squirrels and their nests. I always have to remind myself that “Mother Nature Knows Best.”

The storms do pass…just as with life. Write about a stormy time in your life, vent. No one else needs to see, but getting it down and out will serve you well.

Clouds move dark heavy

Birds sing their winged purpose known

Clear sky sunset show.

Art Prescription: Do you ever watch the sky? study the clouds and how fast they move? Our days and emotions can be like that. Sometimes just when you feel worried or stressed a clear thought occurs…and you know your exact next step!

Fresh moist potting soil

Dark,  wonderfully earthy

New home for root bound.

Art Prescription: I re-potted a friend’s peace lilies today enjoying the tactile sensation of giving these plants a new life. Her lilies were her mother’s, and she breathes energy into them in her home caring for them.  Perhaps her daughter will carry on the tradition. Made some miniature pots just for her.

Graceful is a day

Butterflies flap their new wings

New growth reaches up.

Art Prescription: Lack of Vitamin D got you down? Until your garden is in full bloom, buy some flowers at the market. Set them beside your bed so they are the first thing you see in the morning…art, nature, art!

Grey cold rainy clouds

A chance of snow, sleeting now

Winds of change harbor.

Art Prescription:  A grey cold day is good for extra cat snuggles. Sketch what you have in front of you. And it’s okay to dream about flowers. Here’s an painting that is designed to look antique, like the lining of my grandmother’s hope chest.

Strong and sure branches

Establish new growth upward

Silhouette cool sky.

Art Prescription: Even though lots of folks are wearing shorts here in NC in February, I’m still enjoying the wintery bare trees and branches. They are lovely in their simple form. Try sketching a tree or branch in your journal. Soon these wooded sculptures will be covered in green.

Cool rain clears the air

Like sleep clears the brain, bathing

Cool droplets of hope.

Art Prescription: Rain rinses away dust and dirt. Sleep helps unfurl indecision. Never make a decision until you have slept on it. This is a good “old wives tell.” Get some rest…and then move forward!

Bold purple vinca

Sturdy red green stems reach up

Towards morning sunrise.

Art Prescription:  Ever notice how plants and trees are always reaching towards the sun? They grow despite wind and rain, and right on time they know their season has come. Seems simple doesn’t it?
