I’ll take a lake at dawn, silent and sleeping but for you, a mug in your hand.

Hiked Tobacco Trail. Bird watching and sketching.
A new walking trail
Ruby-crowned kinglet and hawk
And a hermit thrush.
Art Prescription: we ventured out today on a new local trail. It’s a paved walking trail and it wanders into wooded wetlands.
Wish I had my binoculars!!!
To stay or move on?
How do they know? These teachers
Of deepest instinct.
Art Prescription: I added to my background from the other day with colored pencil and graphite…
Pure instinct, the flight
The wave of wing to his mate
And the nest begins.
Art Prescription: My chickadee batch fledged. And now a pair of blue birds are claiming the box. I adore seeing them messaging each other with subtle wing waves.
Index card with graphite and colored pencil:
Loads of rich green moss
And soft downy rabbit fur
A chickadee nest.
Art Prescription: It fascinates me that all birds build different nests. Some use twigs and vines, some nest in tree cavities, others build with leaves, moss, fur, and I’ve even seen a snake skin. What a lot of work these winged friends put into their offspring.
Sumi-ink with my chop that says “hope”
Leaves shiver in breeze
Cool, grey, wintry, cloudy, sky
Fluffy birds huddle.
Art Prescription: I can’t think of a better way to end the year than a nature walk with my sketchbook and my love. Just us and our footsteps together for a 25th New Years Eve. Our lives are blessed and happy, and my wish for everyone is to find the simple beauty of each and every day. Oh yea, and make some art! Here’s to 2017!
Sketchbook with pen and graphite:
Ruby-Crowned Kinglet
Hops about in bare branches
Shows off scarlet head.
Art Prescription: Went to hike at Mason Farm today. North Carolina beautiful winter day…partly sunny, in the 50’s. Saw lots of birds, among them this adorable Ruby-Crowned Kinglet.
