Robins December 13, 2015

A flock of robins

Supervise evening shift

Owls begin to hoot.

Art Prescription:  Love being at Mason Farm at sunset. The birds are foraging for their last snack and the night-time creatures begin to stir.

Keeping it Real December 9, 2015

Flock of wild turkeys

Gather in field, they do not

Wish they were peacocks.

Art Prescription:  So your neighbor has decked the halls and baked (home-made) a holiday cookie batch to sin for. Meanwhile you say the mantra “less is more, less is more.” And actually you are okay with that. You watch as the cardinal steals a sunflower seed from the nuthatch, and you sigh…life is good…life is really good.

Shed November 1, 2015

As the trees shed leaves

So begins winter season

Birds sing renewal.

Art Prescription:  As we begin the season of Yin, going into the darker days, I have a sense of renewal. Cleaning the clutter from the year…preparing for the holidays and my open studio.

Euphonious October 20, 2015

Sharp, bright, fall sunlight

Euphonious, crickets hum

Musical meadow.

Art Prescription:  The sun is sharp these days. Once up, she burns off frosted windshields…moves on to de-thaw grass. And still the crickets hum softly in the meadow.

October Blooms October 15, 2015

Delicate fall blooms

Bright, cheery on my back deck

Nuthatches are back!

Art Prescription:  Sam planted some fall blooming plants. One of them is a delicate, orchid looking bloom. I have no idea the name, but the color and delicate shape intrigues me. Nuthatches are supposedly in decline, so happy to see them return to my sunflower seed.

Draw a Bird Day October 8, 2015

Sounding the alarm

Squats and bobs, tail held up high

Carolina Wren.

Art Prescription:  I love watching these spunky little birds bob and call. They have a distinctive little dance and posture. They are small, but they can cover a big territory with their chattering. Don’t we all need to know how far our voice carries? Are people hearing us when we ask for what we need?

October Rain October 2, 2015

October comes in

With big buckets full of rain

Studio warm, dry.

Art Prescription:  I love the sound of rain on my studio roof. So soothing as I lay down watercolor washes. Big clouds hover over North Carolina, but looks the hurricane is going out to sea. Fall is upon us…nice cool weather.

Swish September 19, 2015

Grasshoppers whirl by

Black crows chuckle in the trees

Horses swish their tails.

Art Prescription:  Trying to take a day of rest…I went to swim and sauna. Rest? My restless soul is not familiar with this concept. So I ventured out to the farm to just be. And I did. I stood in the pasture watching horses graze and nudge each other gently. I saw crows and hawks fly by making lots of racket. I watched song-birds land on the fence to survey their next bug. I petted, leaned on, an loved on all the horses.
